October 4, 201312 yr I respect your decision for wanting him moved. I had the issue with, a few bgp poster trying to minimize his playing ability. No one has minimized anything. No one has said defensively he's not as good as it gets. Offensively, he's average. RBI totals are not the defining statistic for an offensive player. They just aren't. It's one of the most irrelevant, overrated stats there is.

October 4, 201312 yr You guys rallying around his RBI total as to why he's such a great player are probably the same ones that judge a pitcher by their win-loss record. :lol2: Come on man, the guy has been one of the greatest Reds of all time, year after year of producing at the plate and on defense. He's still doing it with the only real drop off being SB's. He was 7th in Runs, 8th in Hits, 4th in HR's and 2nd in RBI's amoung all MLB 2nd basemen. No one can convince me that he's not well above average even on the backside of his career. If the argument is a financial one then it's hard to argue that he's worth that contract at this point in his career but he's not an average player.

October 4, 201312 yr IMO stating that anyone could hit 100 RBI's behind choo and Votto is minimizing his talent. I didn't state anyone could. I said a lot of guys could, and they could. He has a poor OBP and SLG%, and batted behind the two best players in the league at getting on base. I don't think it's a stretch to say there are 30-40 guys in the NL that could've duplicated his numbers in the same situation.

Yeah, they'll lose a bit at 2B, definitely defensively and most likely offensively, but they should more than make up for it with what they can do with the rest of the lineup. That's why Phillips needs to be moved.
