October 4, 201312 yr Would Phillips still be there? If I were the new manager, I would want Phillips gone. He has been a great Red but I would not tolerate any player who plays the game with his brand of "swag". He has proven that he can't change the way he plays after numerous talks and discipline from previous managers. Time to move him and change the clubhouse.
October 4, 201312 yr Nah, everyone is a professional. Marty just signed a new contract. Now, Thom, he may be gone but that would be his own incompetence. I think you overestimate Marty's professionalism. This is the guy who wouldn't stop crying about Homer not giving him a postgame interview after his no-no. He has ragged on LaRussa for years. He hates the man. I just can't see him being a part of anything that involves him working with him.

My guess is they go out to dinner and work through their differences. Marty will probably become LaRussa's biggest fan once they are on the same team. But Marty is probably like me - he hopes he never has to deal with LaRussa as a Red.
October 4, 201312 yr Official Release from the Reds: "This was a very difficult decision to make. Dusty played an important role in the recent success of this organization, and we thank him for his contributions during his time here. We feel a change is necessary, however, if we are to continue to move the organization forward."

What brand of swag are you speaking of? It shouldn't matter what type of "swag" he has, find me a better second baseman you could get.
October 4, 201312 yr Are you being serious? What brand of swag are you speaking of? It shouldn't matter what type of "swag" he has, find me a better second baseman you could get. Phillips is the best there is defensively. Offensively, he's average. The two guys that hit behind Votto and Choo (#1 & #2 in OBP) both had over 100 RBI. Being honest when I say this...Frazier, Ludwick, heck maybe even Meso could've produced with those two constantly on base. He makes too much money, is arrogant, doesn't hustle, and has an attitude. Not the kind of guy you want.

Maybe you should throw Votto in the mix of making too much money and only thinks about his stats. This is the same guy who makes 200 million and would rather walk than swing at a pitch to score the runner because he is worried about his stats.

Swag BP style - not running out ground balls, non chalantly playing balls on defense, general attitude on the field, play the game with as little effort as possible. If he played the game on the field with the same intensity he runs his mouth and shoots out tweets, I would love to keep him. They will not get a better second baseman. Phillips is great. I argued on here that he should be the Reds MVP this year. But this team needs fixes and I see moving him as one of them. I want to see a team that plays the game hard every day and BP will never be one of those guys.

Fact is, Votto's numbers (in a year that everyone said was a down year for him) were statistically some of the best in the game. Phillips numbers were the most average in the game (WSJ did an analysis to confirm this). Phillips is bad for team chemistry. He called out management, called out a teammates contract, and is, in general, not a team oriented person. He doesn't hustle. He takes plays off.

October 4, 201312 yr So how is that anything but arrogance, truth? I don't know what you're asking....He's arrogant because he takes plays off, showboats, and doesn't hustle.

I wouldn't call a comment about how he felt about how he felt as calling out Joey Votto's contract. Doesn't hustle? How many times have you witnessed Phillips not hustling? I don't understand the taking plays off comment.
October 4, 201312 yr Phillips certainly doesn't like anyone stealing his swag, watch out Billy Hamilton.
October 4, 201312 yr I don't know what you're asking....He's arrogant because he takes plays off, showboats, and doesn't hustle. I am agreeing with you and my question is directed at truthbtold. Should have clarified.

You're the first person I've ever seen that thinks he hustles and doesn't take plays off.
