CCH beats Scott in Varsity soccer 5 to 4........a very happy, yet disappointed Litzler with one assist but bummed and congratulatory to the Freshman Hornsby on his first two Varsity field goals..........depending on the soccer post season schedule, this is the last conflict on the schedule......

Was this the young Hornsby's "lock me in" game?

Never a good time when your team commits 4 turnovers.

After your post(s) in the preview thread, this is going to be the extent of your comment?

FYI! The regular PK was playing in a varsity soccer game and was thus not available for this game and rightly so, as this game was originally schedule as a Friday night game prior to TV wanting to broadcast it. See Oldtime post above!

Yes. Didn't think I needed to revisit, but since you apparently do not see it, you were wrong.

1. Cov Cath did not score 37 points.

2. Beechwood most certainly did not "take a beating"

I said all along that CCH was a much better team than people were giving credit for. In actuality, after seeing them play, they are better than I thought they would be. They have so many good athletes on that team. I make no excuses for the Tigers. They simply didn't get it done. The better team certainly won, but the Tigers are not that far off. The score is the result of turnovers, nothing else. While the Tigers may have still lost without them, this game certainly would have been one of the better ones.

That said, the fact is that we did have 4 turnovers and the result was that we lost by more than they should have.

Well, you certainly get points for loyalty and sticktoitiveness.

CovCath had scored 4 TD's and a FG before Beechwood tallied.

The difference in size between the two teams was dramatic.

CovCath players were routinely carrying Beechwood defenders 3-5 yards before being tackled.

Many of the turnovers were the result of MEN popping BOYS. Not a shot at the Tigers at all, just a statement of fact in the difference in the physical development of the two teams.

I love the Beechwood program, have many friends that have played there and several friends whose sons are on the team now -- that was a physical beating and I truly don't think the game should even be played. I tip my hat to Beechwood and Coach Rash for wanting to play it, but it just isn't a fair fight.

Nor do I think CovCath should be playing Bellevue, Ludlow, or any other 1A school.

I have to reply to this.

First of all, to say the game shouldn't be played is a joke. To that, I will say Cov Cath should stop playing Highlands when they change classes. Same difference, actually more of a difference.

Beechwood controlled the first quarter of the game and if Fieger doesn't fumble the snap on the goal line, the game could have gone much differently. I am not saying the Tigers win, but it would have been a different game. Not to mention the Tigers also gave Cov Cath a very short field after a fumble just before halftime that the Colonels turned into a score.

I agree, the Tigers looked undersized versus the Colonels. A big part of that difference is sophomores versus seniors. All the Beechwood turnovers were sophmores. They will get better. The Colonels controlled the line of scrimmage for sure and the linebackers aren't making enough plays, partly because of that. Congratulations to the Colonels. Enjoy the win.

I am looking forward to next year's game versus the Colonels.

The Tigers turnovers hurt them, but, no running game was there downfall. Midway thru the 4th qtr, they only had 18 yards rushing.

The lack of a running game (for maybe the first time in Beechwood history) and trouble stopping the run. Both point toward the trenches. This problem shows up against teams with big lines. The Tigers just have to hope their playoff opponents don't have lines as big and good as Dixie and Cov Cath. I am sure the Mayfield fans have even more confidence and less concern about the Tigers after reading that.

The next big test on this issue will be the last game of the season versus New Cath. The Tigers have until then to get better and figure out how to fix the problem.

Funny you made that analogy, a CovCath fan and a Beechwood fan, in texts to each other with me attached, referenced the same thing. In short, CovCath now knows how HHS feels being on the dominant end of a one-sided "rivalry".

I don't have a dog in the fight, but I'll say the one difference is the eyeballs when CovCath gets whipped by Highlands doesn't physically look like Men vs Boys....CovCath vs. Beechwood does look that way.

Play it forever, I could care less, but a beat-up and limping CovCath team dominated that game last night.

First, let's lose the limping in comment. Beechwood has lost almost as many key players as Cov Cath to injury.

I can see why you say "Men vs. Boys". Cov Cath clearly had Beechwood outsized. However, if Beechwood scores in the first quarter insterad of fumbing a snap at the 1 and doesn't give Cov Cath another fumble and 30 yard TD drive with 2 minute left in the half, the score is now 21-14. It can change that easily. Yes, Cov Cath controlled the line of scrimmage. But just hold on to the ball and Beechwood would have been in the game. Those fumbles were all on the Tigers too. Nothing forced. Just not taking care of the ball. We will see good games the next two years between these two teams.

I watched some of the game. I don't think BW looked totally out matched. But, I didn't think they were going to win either. BW looked very small in the line and if Mayfield and BW were to meet I think they will be at an extreme disadvantage in the line because I think Mayfield's line is bigger and better than Covington Catholic's.

This was the best game by Sam Dressman all year.

I told my son when we sat down to watch the game that Beechwood won't have any answer for Sam.
