Covington Catholic 28 Beechwood 7

I told my son when we sat down to watch the game that Beechwood won't have any answer for Sam.

Just hope he stays healthy

Lots of Beechwood bashing today for a game that while it was never in doubt, it was very competitive. The sophomore class has to physically mature some before next season, but I think Beechwood could be very good a year from now.

How was it very competitive? Four TD's and a FG to zero heading to the 4th?

I agree the future should be bright but I am cautiously optimistic after the last Phenom Frosh class flopped.

I saw the game differently, I don't think it was competitive. I think CCH kinda coasted through this victory and if they really had their foot on the gas it would have been ugly.

This was the best game by Sam Dressman all year.

My guess is that was Ben Dressman's best game also.

First, let's lose the limping in comment. Beechwood has lost almost as many key players as Cov Cath to injury.

Fair enough. My point was that after scoring a TON of points in week #1 and the offense playing pretty well early in week #2, they had scored about 50 points in the last month. Some of that was Moeller and Highlands, to be sure, but against a so-so Henderson Co they struggled to get the offense on track as well.

The turnovers are what they are, and on several of them they were the result of a kid getting popped and ball coming out -- that isn't a self-inflicted wound, that was a direct result of the CovCath defense. Your "nothing forced" comment I completely disagree with. On the one play drive where the kid fumbled he got smoked...that fumble isn't "all on the Tigers".

I love your optimism about the next two games, and I'm not going to look because I don't care that much, but I'd bet some people were saying that after the game last year too. And two years ago.

I don't buy it. Again, I couldn't care less either way, I'm just saying that game was Men vs Boys last night and as much as I LOVE the young QB and some of the kids around him, I think the "wait 'til next year" mantra rings a little hollow.

I hope Beechwood goes on to win state, I truly do, I'll be rooting for them like crazy! I love the school and the community feel to the whole place.

It 100% was....but is that the result of him playing better or him not playing Moeller, Highlands, and a solid defensive unit of a Top 10(ish) 6A school on the road?

The same plays last night where he'd keep it and roll off tackle for a 5-8 yard gain was a no gain and a bruise the last few weeks. That is my point.

You nailed it before, Sam is a man.

You keep ignoring the first quarter. Pull up the first quarter stats and get back to me. My guess is Beechwood dominated the yardage numbers that quarter and fumbled on the 1 instead of getting a score to show for it. That game should have been 7-0 at the end of the first quarter with Beechwood looking like they were in control and headed toward an upset.

Second item, when you keep fumbling the ball away before you can even start a drive, you will always look dominated. Cov Cath scored 3 times after Beechwood fumbles.

No delusions here. Cov Cath controlled the line of scrimmage in this game. But I think if these two teams as is played 10 times, Beechwood would win 3.

No chance.

Perhaps one of the fumbles was due to a good hit.

Fumble #1 - QB bobbled the snap from center.

Fumble #2 - QB rolling out palming the ball and swinging it carelessly loses control as he is being tackled.

Fumble #3 - It looked to me like the RB lost the ball before he was ever hit. Perhaps he didn't get the handoff clean? I don't know what happened but it didn't look like a hit of any consequence caused the fumble.

No one was saying wait till next year the last couple of years. Beechwood has one senior in their front seven and that senior's place will be filled by a player who was starting but is out for the year due to injury. Beechwood has one senior on the offensive line. The QB is a soph. The RB is a soph. The receivers are underclassmen. Bottom line, there aren't many seniors that are key players on this team. WR Max Shover will be the most significant loss but the Tigers have a lot of talented, fast WR/DB's returning. Max is having a great season at WR and at CB. There is a TON of talent that will have experience returning next year and that is why THIS YEAR I will say I am looking forward to next year.

Never give up on your program

I am glad I sided with VOR on this one. He is much more passionate about defending the Beechies.
