If Beechwood beats Franklin County, they not only should stay ahead of Pikeville, they should move back ahead of Russellville.

 

Honestly, it bothers me seeing teams move up in rankings while playing weak schedules like Russellville has. Does anyone really know if they are any good? The Ft. Campbell win is a solid win. The rest of their wins so far should not impress anyone. If they were playing Mayfield this week, I would have Mayfield a minimum of a 3 TD favorite. I just don't like seeing weak schedule teams rewarded for beating teams they should beat.

That is the reason why some of these up and coming teams :sssh: never seem to get over the hump. They play weak schedules and think they can be world beaters until they run into a Hazard, Beechwood, LCA or Mayfield. They have to have a tough schedule to help them in the playoffs.

Not necessarily for me, Bw fans have claimed all along that they think this years team is good enough to win a title and I think they have been waiting for them to show signs of it. Signs I have so far not seen from game reports and stats but they still seem to believe and lets face it the Bw fanbase has several members that know football. It is my opinion, at this point, that they are a year away but I would begin to change my mind if they start to play good football and Franklin Co would be a great launch pad.

 

I really don't see a whole lot of Beechwood fans making that claim. If they are, they haven't been paying attention. Saying they are good enough to win a State title and declaring they will win a State Title are two totally different things. VOR and Eye of the Tiger are very reasonable in their assessments, so go by them. Though, currently my opinion of the Tigers is a bit lower. I believe they have the talent to win state, unfortunately, I don't believe they are playing anywhere near good enough to win a State Title. Way too sporadic IMO.

 

A great deal depends on what happens this Friday. IMO, the Tigers need to start turning it on very soon. I don't care about the score and you can't focus on Win or Loss against these 5 and 6a schools. I want it to look like they are in control and are not relying on the opponent's mistakes. If they play Franklin close and they are not relying on Franklin mistakes to be "in the game", I will feel very good.

 

I expected the turnaround to happen last week and it didn't. They should have dominated Holy Cross and simply did not. From where I sat, that should have been the biggest beat down Beechwood has ever inflicted on HC and it just wasn't.

 

So in the end, I'm thinking the current poll is correct. Without knowing Russelville, I just don't see where Beechwood is playing strong enough to be considered anywhere near the class of Mayfield. So I accept the 3. Even if you put a big gap between 1 and 2.

VOR, I talk alot with the Eye of the Tiger and he ask me that very question recently while we were up there visiting family :laugh: and I told him that I first started to take note of Russellville the day after the title game when I ran into their Head Coach John Myres, a well known and highly reguarded coach in Mayfield due to his time here as a assistant. When I ask him about his team he mentioned that 2013 and 2014 would be years that he hoped he could compete with us as his team that year was almost all freshmen and sophmores. Last year that group played Mayfield tougher than any other 1A team we played all year further making me and others take notice. So before the season this year alot of folks in Mayfield have had their attention on Russellville and they seem to be as advertised. They played Ft Cambell almost as close as Mayfield did.

Nice to see so many 1A teams taking on a challenge. Better games than when district play starts.

You and I are on the same page here OSD. I didn't expect the biggest beat down ever against Holy Cross, but I expected Beechwood to control the action more and I expected a running clock.

 

I am not going to question Beechwood being 3 too much because of the same reasons you state here, even though I personally would rank Beechwood ahead of Russellville

Well, I guess there could be several reasons: Fairview was playing a very weak schedule over the last four or five years, they scored a lot of points on some struggling teams and those teams don't schedule them anymore. Fairview did strengthen their schedule this year, but I doubt they wanted to beef it up too much. Hazard was willing.

It's tough... Frankfort doesn't play any 1A school outside of districts, and I thought they played pretty well against Bigger #6 5A Franklin Co.

With Russellville now at #2, would they slide into #1 with their easy win against Todd Central. Which, by the way, why would you travel all the way to Paducah to play the team in the next county over. Go figure.

Russellville playing Todd Central is a joke. Todd Central is one of the worst teams in 2A. I don't understand why they would play them if they didn't have to. Money is not a good reason and McCracken County should have gotten a better Opponent for this type of game or just not have a Bowl game type thing. Very very few people are interested in seeing this type of game.
