Because of a freshman score? How am I supposed to take this question seriously? :lol:

I was told Grayson Blevins had a great game at tailback last night. I was told once he got to the outside no one could catch him.

 

A large percentage of the Mercer County freshman team doubles as the Mercer County JV team. Tons of experience being gained.

 

I also believe that freshmen Grayson Blevins and Dustin Baker have seen some varsity time as well.

The varsity looks to be down from where they were not long ago, and now the freshmen gets blown out. Seems like a sign to me.

It's not the first time the freshman have been blown out in the last 5 years.

 

 

If the varsity loses nailbiters to LexCath and gets blown out by Highlands they are down from where they used to be? Maybe. I'd call them down if the varsity lost to Mercer County. Not the freshmen. Boyle County will be Boyle County. They've been a consistent top 5 team while being in the same class as Highlands, CovCath and LexCath. That's not down to me.

^^How is the varsity down? I mean, they aren't reeling off 5 straight State Championships. They won ANOTHER one in 2010 & the last two years they have been to the region final game. There are other good programs out there, ya know? Especially in 4A & especially in 4A East. Of the top 15 programs in this state the last 10 years, Boyle is one of them and two others are in there region/semi state (Highlands and LexCath)...somebody has to lose.

As far as wins goes they are declining.

Never ever read too much into freshmen or JV wins or losses for any school. There can be so many variables such as who played or is a good player out. Some teams hold out key players from JV games if they think they will be needed for the varsity and this could and does include some very good freshmen at times as well as sophs. Some schools play Juniors on the JV teams. This is just a matter of choice for that school. I know for a fact that Boyle's JV teams at times have gone thru a 2 hr varsity practice then go right into a JV game with maybe a drink of water and a 30 minute break.

On your point about the decline and a 35-0 freshman score raising the question, I agree with you that it merits the question. That doesn't mean the bottom has dropped out but it does make you want to know what is going on.

IMO, it's a talent wane. There is still talent at Boyle but not the level of their best years and not the depth either. Every program goes through those years. (Even the mighty Birds had such dips in the early 80's and from '01 to '04 :lol2:)

 

It happens. When you say "the bottom is falling out" is when those records become 5-7, 4-8, or even 6-5.

Like PP said...It's not the first time. This years group of Sr's got blown out as freshman. I remember a bigger margin than 35-0 three years ago. I'm not to worried over the results of a freshman game.

I don't think you want it to become a habit, but I agree with you that there is no need to worry too much. Now if those kids aren't developing, don't win any JV games, and the varsity records dip down around or below .500 in a couple years, then you will have cause for concern.
