If some people don't want them playing in bad weather, then why in the heck don't you all have problems with teams located in cities that have bad weather and don't play in domes?

 

I mean seriously, take your skirts off and play football.

 

I guess the next thing will be people screaming to stop games if the wind is blowing hard because shoot, the wind affects the game too.

I personally think they should rotate the Super Bowl to every NFL city.

Sigh......as I said before, I'm not sure what all of this has to do with toughness. They are NFL players and have survived probably 15+ years of playing football, and probably a few "tough" coaches that accused them of wearing skirts to insult them (although women do go through childbirth, so the "skirt" analogy is pretty tiresome, and inaccurate, because women can be and are pretty tough). And I've said, I don't care about regular season and playoff games being played in adverse conditions. Who didn't rush outside to play football on a snow day when they were young (although those games typically lasted about 15 minutes, because, well, it sucked playing football in the snow)?? Weather is part of the charm of football, and part of the reason why teams like to earn home field advantage. I don't think anyone has ever asked that all games be played in neutral, sterile conditions. But for the Super Bowl, which decides the league champion, and is much a show, and entertainment event, to be possibly played in ridiculous conditions that does not allow the best teams to play at their best, just doesn't seem right. No one clamors for the NCAA Football Championship to be played in a cold weather city..why not? Think about some of the iconic plays and images from the Super Bowl over the years. Great players making great plays, many of which might not have happened in sub freezing conditions or a snowstorm. The championship of this sport (and every sport) should be played under the best possible conditions.

Aside from unpredictable weather (here we go again ), many cities do not have the proper infrastructure to host an event of that magnitude. Excellent public transportation, adequate hotel space, restaurants and amenities are all needed. The Jacksonville Super Bowl from a few years ago, where cruise ships had to be docked to supply enough hotel rooms is an example. Can you imagine a Super Bowl in Oakland??

If it is cold or the weather is bad the stands will be empty. Most attendees for these events are not pure fans of one of the teams playing. It is an entertainment event. Corporate sponsorships, the events leading to the game, the parties, it is the attraction as much as the game.

I think it was probably a "Powers That Be" type decison... Two teams play in the stadium, it's NYC. Big city for the Big Game. If attendance is down, maybe it will be a long time before it is in a cold weather city again.

There's a lot to like about hosting the event in NYC. Travel, hotels, things to do, it's all easy and abundant in NYC. There's a reason many big events are held there. The only real downside is the weather. Chances are, the weather will be at least ok (big snowstorms in NYC, while they do happen, it's not an every year thing), although it may be cold, I doubt it'll be of Ice Bowl proportions. If everything works out, it wouldn't be a surprise to see other colder weather cities get a shot.

I want the team playing the best on the day of the Super Bowl to win. I don't think "Society" wants the best team to win, "Society" usually goes for the underdog and not the so called "Best Team".

 

That said I don't care if it snows or not, I just personally think there will be more excitement and make for a more memorial game if it is snowing during the game. I'm not saying a white out where you can't see the game or 2 foot of snow during the game. Odds are there will be no snow but it won't be the end of the world if it does snow.

 

Some people are complaining that transportation or the halftime show might be interrupted. As for transportation, I could not care less and 99.999% of those watching the game will be doing so someplace other than in the stadium, so that's not even a concern for most of us. As for interrupting the Half Time show, that alone should be a reason that everyone is hoping for snow, the half time shows for the most part are horrible. I don't want to see another geriatric rocker or talentless pop princess parading around at half time...the lone exception would be if they could get Van Halen to quit fighting long enough to do the half time at the Super Bowl.

I am actually looking forward to watching it in NYC, it will be neat to watch IMO.
