I think we now know Flotsam what might be the next and ultimate great Bengal moment that shows how bad the Bengals luck can be. Watch the Bengals end up making the Super Bowl this year, and who knows with the Bengals luck even being the favorite, and then the weather ends up impacting them more than the other team somehow and they end up losing. Something like this does worry me because even though I am one of the few believers in them, I do realize how bad the Bengals luck is. Which the timing of the Super Bowl being outside this year, sets up perfect for that next disappointing moment haha.

One thing you forget futurecoach and that is both teams have to play in the same weather.

 

It sounds to me if the bengals make it to the SB you may already be filing your excuse to a loss away to break out in Feb.

This has got nothing to do with toughness. It's kinda hard to make an argument that pro football players are pansies. Let's face it football (and really all professional sports) are about entertainment. And good football games are what's entertaining. No way you can can argue that the two best teams in the world playing in a foot of snow or sub freezing conditions is going to lead to good football. It might be fun to watch for a little bit because of the novelty, but ultimately, you'll end up with bad football, and likely a bad game. A title shouldn't be decided by a random weather event that could have been avoided. You want to premier event to be played by players at their best, not running around like on roller skates, or having your strong around qb shot putting passes because the ball is like an ice cube. Let em play in fair conditions and let the best team win.

Super Bowls have been played in rain (Peyton Manning won his in the rain). Rain is one thing (although sideways, Nor'easter rain is another). And I understand modern stadiums do heat the turf, but that will not prevent snow from accumulating if it is heavy. And while football at all levels is played in the weather, for the most part, aside from occasional rain, the NFL is the only league that plays in snow fairly often (and even that isn't correct, because that only happens a few times a year). High school and college are typically done by the time heavy snow and brutal cold is a possibility. So really, most football IS played under favorable conditions. Why do you think there are no college bowl games held at cold weather sites?? It ruins the atmosphere, makes travel difficult. Remember, the NFL is entertainment. The fans deserve the best players in the game to have an opportunity to decide the outcome of its premiere event in a situation that allows their skills to be used. I hate domes too. And I think the random regular season game in a snowstorm or sub zero conditions is pretty cool. That's why teams need to work hard in the regular season to earn that home field advantage, that brings weather into play. But if you're going to play the Super Bowl in a neutral site, in part, to eliminate the home field advantage, why put yourself in the position where one team has an advantage over the other. Why penalize a team for being based in the South or other warm weather location?? You want the BEST team to win....not the best cold weather team, or the team that plays best in snow.

 

In all likelihood, most of the this argument is probably moot, as chances are, the weather will be fine.

There's a reason why most sports (soccer is one exception) cancel games when the weather is bad. And it's not because baseball players,or golfers aren't tough, manly men. It's because the quality of play suffers. The only real reason football plays, is because there are so few games, and it is not easy to reschedule games should they get canceled (you can't just play it the next time you're in town, or as part of a double header). And really, have you ever not watched the Super Bowl because the weather was going to be "perfect". Did you not watch Kurt Warner and the Rams, because they played in a dome?? Or would you rather watch Adrian Peterson play 4 or 5 games a year in snow or bitter cold in Minnesota?? I'll take good weather football over bad weather football any day. If the general public had been clamoring for a cold weather site because "that's the way football should be played", it would have been done a long time ago.

I know soccer doesn't cancel (I mentioned them as the exception). And while you found that game exciting, it created a ton of controversy, and many said the game should have been cancelled and rescheduled.

 

And, no I don't think it will be the end of the world if the weather goes wacky for the Super Bowl. I'll still watch. I just think the NFL owes it to the fans that spend millions of $ to go to the game, and watch and follow the game over a 6 month season, that the championship gets decided fairly, and not influenced by flukes of nature. I'd just rather watch the game played the way it is most of the season.

Nope I didn't forget that at all actually. And no excuses at all being made early at all, but from this post sure sounds like you would be more happy than upset if they made the Super Bowl and lost so you can say something to me about how people should be more like you and not get up about this team.

 

I thought you would be happy about this post, seeing how I even admit how the Bengals do have some crazy bad luck on their side even when they have good teams that always leaves fans disappointed. I mean look what they created in you, with the disappointment through the years. So I am hoping they break that bad luck curse, because I would not look forward to possibly turning into you one day. That wouldn't be much to look forward too. So I just hope they change that luck so that don't happen to me one day..:sssh:
