The Official "Good Luck FKY" Thread

If I'd known what a circus the finish line was going to be tonight, I'd have gone down there just to check it out.

If FKY decides to run again next year, I'll be there in person.

I'll be there...to sit and have a beer with you while we watch. It's someone else's turn. :lol2:

When I saw him, he was trying to hold off a challenge from Jessica Biel. I didn't even know she had entered the challenge until then.

Nice!!!

Same here. We can drink while he's running, swimming and biking and whatnot. Shoot, we can get drunk, take a nap and drink some more. :thumb:

I'm joining you all.

I can't find anyone crossing around the time that they list for him that fits that description. This guy actually finished a few seconds before the time listed for him. The closest person to his listed time was' date=' without a doubt, a girl.[/quote']

I actually started at 7:23 so my finish time by the clock will be different. Louisville is a time-trial start.

If PP92 and formerkywrestler are ready to go, I've got my guitar strapped...

Sold!

12 minutes left to finish. It's rowdy down here.

Man. So upset I could t physically stay down to watch that.

Bug, this may be an impossible question to answer, but...if some normal Joe made it a goal to compete in the Ironman, how long would the training take? Let's say he or she is in average shape.

Also, I'm assuming the competitors have to finish in a certain amount of time?

For you personally, what was the most difficult portion--swimming, biking, or running?

I'm beyond fascinated by this. I was telling my wife about you & Timberlake today. She just ran her first 5k & I explained to her what all is involved in the Ironman.

I trained for 6 months. Training-wise the bike was the most difficult part for me. But in the race it was EASILY the run. I've never once came close to feeling that bad

Geesh...if you trained for six months, that means about 3 years for me.

So happy for you! :thumb:

I'm thinking PP92 should be the next to go.

To answer your question it depends upon your level of fitness, body type, ability to sustain during prolonged workouts. It becomes a second job while you are in the bulk of your training. I normally devote 10-17 hours a week to the 3 disciplines depending upon the schedule. Most encourage you to have run 2-3 full marathons before attempting an IM because it is the only one of the three where your body will take the most abuse anatomically and physically. You have to train your body to break down and in effect build an immunity to the stresses associated with the race. Pretty dumb when you think about :D

I describe the three like this:

The swim is the scariest (he had a swim background I believe which is huge in the open water). I had no formal swim training as a child. Parents, throw your kids in to the pool early. It is something they can do the rest of their lives plus it sets them up well for triathlons when they are older :lol2:

The bike is the most mind grueling. Typically you are going to spend half of your day in the saddle as well as half of your training time. It just gets old and there are only so many routes you can ride.

The run is the most painful. Not sure I need to explain that one. This is where the training of your body to break down - meaning, training not to break down - is most vital. Running on empty is something that takes time to build.

The science behind it all is intriguing as well. The amount of calories one burns but also consumes during the day is crazy. If you burn say 13,000 calories, you probably consumed 4,000-5,000 during the day. You HAVE to know your body and how it operates. That is the most important variable of any race, IMO.

Absolutely Amazing! I couldn't even drive my car 14 hours. Wow

^This...Great Job!!! FKY

Congrats FKY. Oh, and you're insane... :lol2:

That was never debatable, but still have to simply say he's the man!!
