^ Wow, that's great respect that you are giving the Mayfield program, VOR. I respect your opinion as much as anybody's when it comes to nky football. Know this, we live in far western ky, but we are aware of the great programs that populate the nky area. Year in and year out, you guys produce some of the finest teams in the state...and when Beechwood does get over the hump and defeat my Cardinals....we will NOT consider it an upset.

Inside NKY football is a weekly segment that will cover all areas related to Northern Kentucky football.We will cover teams from class 1A all the way to 6A and how they did on Friday night, while also highlighting the star players from each game. That is one of the best parts about this area and the football that we see Northern Kentucky has produced state champions in 1A (Beechwood), 2A (Newport Central Catholic and Holy Cross), and 4A (Highlands and Covington Catholic,) while also producing state championship runner ups in 5A (Cooper) and 6A (Simon Kenton and Ryle). Needless to say, football is played at a high level in the Northern part of the state.

 

Let’s take a look at each Northern Kentucky district and how the teams are expected to finish.

 

Class 1A:

 

1. Beechwood- The Tigers are coming off a state semifinal appearance and once again will be the favorite to not only win the district in NKY, but also the state championship. They will be led by a talented sophomore quarterback in Kyle Fieger as well as 8 other offensive starters. Defensively 6 starters return from last season’s 9-5 team. Expectations will once again be high in Ft. Mitchell.

First let me say great job, I appreciate the time and effort you have been putting in to this. I don't think anyone has done a better job than you have. I want to challenge your statement above, why in the world would you make that statement? While Bw is capable, they should not be considered the favorite and should be an underdog to Mayfield given what each returns.

If any N. Ky. people doubt what I say, think about this. Beechwood beat New Cath 2 of the last 3 years. They have beaten Simon Kenton. They have beaten Conner in scrimmages (for what that may be worth). But they haven't beaten Mayfield.

Not to mention ... anything less than a blow out that year should have been considered a loss ... what .. didn't you out man Beechwood by 80 to 90 pounds a man?

You were beaten up and down the field until the 4th quarter ... (not to mention the joke of a field goal that was handed to you).

The truth of the matter is ... it should have been worse. Get over it.

I have no problem mentioning scrimmages. They are a barometer of how your team stacks up against new faces. Heck, this time of year BGP is populated heavily with scrimmage talk, even polls to cast votes with.

The thing Mayfield fans have to understand is people in N. Ky. don't realize the talent and program Mayfield has in place. Mayfield is too far removed from the area and no one in this area gets to see them or hear anything about them. Plus, Beechwood's history over the last 20 years has them fixed in N. Ky. as just a couple notches below Highlands. Add in the hype over a freshman team that beat the N. Ky. big schools to win last year's freshman championship and there you have it.

 

For those in N. Ky. who haven't seen Mayfield the past few years, let me help you. The only N. Ky. school I would rank above Mayfield over the past few years is Highlands. They are better than New Cath. They would most likely beat Cov Cath, Conner, Cooper, Simon Kenton or any other N. Ky. school. If Beechwood beats Mayfield, it will be an upset. An upset that could happen but it will be an upset.
