The Cards return more on both sides of the ball from a much better team including a better QB and line and they are all back. The young Bw QB still has a ways to go and may become one of the best in the area but he was no where near that when he left the field last year. How do I find this poll ?

Tigers are loaded at the skill positions with size, speed, and athketicism. Only weakness right now is on the line. I guess we will find out in a couple months.

The thing Mayfield fans have to understand is people in N. Ky. don't realize the talent and program Mayfield has in place. Mayfield is too far removed from the area and no one in this area gets to see them or hear anything about them. Plus, Beechwood's history over the last 20 years has them fixed in N. Ky. as just a couple notches below Highlands. Add in the hype over a freshman team that beat the N. Ky. big schools to win last year's freshman championship and there you have it.

 

For those in N. Ky. who haven't seen Mayfield the past few years, let me help you. The only N. Ky. school I would rank above Mayfield over the past few years is Highlands. They are better than New Cath. They would most likely beat Cov Cath, Conner, Cooper, Simon Kenton or any other N. Ky. school. If Beechwood beats Mayfield, it will be an upset. An upset that could happen but it will be an upset.

I really like what Scott returns and think they will surprise a lot of people. As much as I like Coach Borchers and his team, I think it would have been a big sign of disrespect to put them ahead of Scott, given what they return this year.

 

I don't think it would of been a sign of disrespect to put Cooper in front of Scott. With that said, I will have a better feeling on how I think Cooper's season will go after the scrimmage with Dixie tomorrow and the first game against Ryle.

 

But to say it would of been a big sign of disrespect to put Cooper ahead of Scott is silly, yes Scott is supposed to be good this year because of the players they returned but the last 2 years with those same players the games against Cooper hasn't been close.

Cooper has outscored Scott over the past 2 years by a total of 85-14.

I have said Scott could be the Cooper of 2011 and end up winning the district with a great run, but at the same time they still have to prove themselves and win those games, something they haven't been able to do yet.

Being from NKy and having attending two Mayfield games in Mayfield while my daughter attended MSU, I will say that most have heard of Mayfield but most don't follow Mayfield enough to say whether they will be great or good enough, from year to year.

 

My guess is the same with teams like Cooper, Conner, or CovCath, Mayfield fans (WKy football fans that is) might know of these teams but wouldn't know from one year to the next if it's going to be a great team or just a good team!

The order of how the nky teams will finish does not include the others in the district. (Noted in the article) I have Scott ranked as the #2 5A team in NKY. Doesn't necessarily mean they will finish 2nd in the district. I do think Conner wins the district, however.

 

I think the big question for Conner is again this year can they play defense. As with any sport while offense is what everyone wants to see defense is what wins games. I do not think Conner will go far. I think they were more talented last year and were lucky to pull out some close games by outscoring the competition. That caught up to them in the playoffs and it will probably do the same this year.

If Conner can stay healthy this year, I think you'll see an improved defense. We will know more tomorrow when they go against a passing QB in FIeger. Just a hunch, but I'm going to say Beechwood comes out throwing the ball....

I agree this could be Scott's year but until they prove they can play with the big boys of Class 5 I would not rank them at #2. The last two years it has been Conner, Cooper and South Oldam as the class of 5 in Northern Kentucky. Conner has been blessed with a great QB and all purpose player the last couple of years. Cooper had a great senior and junior class last year.

 

Cooper may be their first real test this year. Their non-district schedule is soft and may not fully prepare them for a legitimate run for the district. I hope they don't host a battle tested Jag team that first week, thinking at perhaps 5-0, that they have this nailed down. That would be foolish.

After tonights game at Dixie Cooper needs alot of work.
