You keep saying you don't want to compare them, but you keep throwing other sports in. I asked a specific question about the First two rounds of the FOOTBALL playoffs. That's what you were commenting on, so that's what I asked you about. I know you can't keep a continuous thought going in your responses, but pleast stick the the topic we were referring to and answer MY QUESTION

 

btw... I call the first round of Baseball and Softball postseason play Districts. Never said otherwise. You keep missing the point. He's telling you that in Football, you have a District Playoff during the regular season. Then essentially the first games of the playoffs would be considered regionals since you are already playing outside your district. GOOD LORD!

Sorry, I was thinking I was talking to RCC which is why the softball kept coming into play. I don't know what they call them off the top of my head, but I do know that the regional championship games are week3.

 

As far as you now bringing up softball, softball just like football plays district games during the regular season to get their seeding for the tournament...GOOD LORD!

 

BTW, there is no playoff games during the regular season in football. It's the same as in softball that you are now talking about, the regular season is used for seeding, it's not a tournament. anyone who thinks of it as a tournament in mid season simply doesn't have their facts straight. Both sports use the regular seasons district games to figure out seeding for the tournament, whether or not you call the tournament district tournament or state playoffs.

Take your 1 response. Every bball team does get to play for the state title and it's not during the regular season. It's called district tournament which is part of the state tournament.

 

your response #2 yes you are right, there will always be exceptions to every rule, but isn't it better to limit the number of exceptions? with a 2 team format there will be a higher number of exceptions which will basically come down to a coin toss to decide who gets to move on and who doesn't, why not let them settle it on the field where it should be settled?

I think if the vote had been for 2 options, keep 4 and either take 3 or 2 the outcome would have been same but margin would not appear as a land slide. I think that was the KHSAA way of keeping it the way the wanted it without much worry!

I agree. Forget about all the comparison to other sports and other arguments. Here's my main problem with 4 teams. I feel that making it to the KY HIGH SCHOOL STATE PLAYOFFS should be something special for the kids...a sense of accomplishment. It should be a honor and privelege and an accomplishment you are proud of. It should be earned. When you look at 5A (and I'm sure it's similar in all the other classes), 32 of the 40 teams in 5A made it to the state playoffs. Only 8 teams were left out. That's not what I call an honor to make it. At that point, just let them all in! Why even have district play and elimination? Because I can guarantee you that some teams that are getting eliminated are better than some that are making the playoffs. If you come from a strong division and get eliminated, I'm sure there is a team from a 4 teams division that may not be anywhere near as strong as a team that was eliminated from a strong district. So either let them all in or decrease the number that get in. I would be okay either way.

 

There are too many classes. You can't expand the classes AND the number of teams that make the playoffs and have any feeling the making the playoffs are special. It's not and it should be! If they kept one of the other the same (4 classes or only 2 teams), I would have no issues at all. With 4 classes and allowing 4 to move on, you'd still get some pretty competitive 4 seed teams. But you can't to both and think that kids would feel good about making the playoffs. It's not really a very big accomplishment. I'm not demeaning the 4th place teams, I'm saying that as a player, it can't be a great feeling of accomplishment to make it to the playoffs...and it should be special to the kids. But it's not when 32 of the 40 teams advance within a class.

Total of 118 voted for a 4-team playoff from each district. 39 for 3-team, 58 for 2-team, 210 total.

Those of you that have teams in Class 3A, District 5 (Bath, Bourbon, Estill, Garrard, Powell, WH) the voting went like this; 4-Team (Bath, Bourbon, Garrard, Powell), 2-Team (Estill, WH)..

 

It's strange that Estill voted for a two-team playoff..
