Football Playoff Survey Released, Board Approves Results

^When did the district tournament for baseball/softball/basketball stop being the playoffs?

Twist anyway you want. You know what I'm talking about. It's not about what you call it, it's about qualifying and moving on from the teams within your district. Plain and simple, in football 4 teams move on from their district. In baseball/softball, 2 teams advance from their district. Period. Name it whatever you want.

I can see the argument against 6 classes. I just don't see the argument against 4 teams making it into the playoffs from each district, mainly because the same people who are against the 4 team rule say nothing when it comes to other high school sports in the state. In reality there are less football teams that make it to the playoffs than baseball teams and basketball teams.

I have no problem with 4 teams making the playoffs if those 4 teams are worthy of being a playoff team. 6 classes waters that down and we now have MANY teams in the playoffs with losing records. that's just redicuolus!

I will call it what I want.;) It is simple, baseball/softball/basketball districts are the first round of playoffs whether playing teams in your district or not, you lose your out.

There would be no incentive to play good teams out of district play but that is why you shouldn't limit to only 2 teams. You brought up the Propfessional sports and I showed you how they do it, now you are backpeddling finding excuses which make no sense. The NFL goes by overall record, you toss them out there and then say you shouldn't use the overall record.

You want 2 teams per district yet haven't come up with one good reason to limit it to that many teams.

There are good reasons to keep 4 teams. Some districts tougher than others, tie breakers leaving good teams out, other sports do it, but to say there have been no good reasons to take 2 is not right. No win teams in playoffs, 1 win teams taking 3rd seed. Numerous blowouts in 1st round, unnecessary travel for these blowouts.

Everyone is not ever going to agree but to belittle someone because their opinion is different than yours is a little unnecessary.

Let's do it this way. Football has a district process. They use the regular season to play district games and weed out teams, right? Because in districts where there are more than 4 teams, someone gets eliminated in their district process. Thats the process they use to weed teams first, correct? Softball's district process (which has the exact same intentions, to weed out weak district teams) is done at the end of the season instead of during the season. So those two processes are intended to do exactly the same thing...to determine who will represent your district moving forward. So no, the process of determing who will represent their district in the playoffs is not part of the playoffs, unless you consider the first district game in football season the start of the playoffs. Because the process starts the eliminating of someone. You are essentially playing a district round robin tournament to determine who moves on. If football wasn't a once a week sport, they would also have a district tournament at the end of the season to determine who moves on to represent their district against other districts. So they do eliminate teams by district play now, just not many teams get eliminated in district play because they allow 4 to move on. In some districts with 6, teams are eliminated, just like in softball districts. Every team doesn't move on in football. There is a process. The problem is the process allows teams that haven't earned it to move on and represent a district.

You are correct what ever you want to call the post season does not matter. Once the regular season is over, you move on to the first round of playoffs, just like all the other sports. Then round by round you are "weeding" out the teams as you go.

football has the same process to weed out district teams, they just allow 4 to move on and softball allows 2

Same as the football season. You don't do good in your round robin district tournament, you're out. Football allows 4 to move on and softball allows 2. (in the first round). Football's first round elimination process is the district play in the season.

What you are explaining about softball is the same thing, they play in the playoffs, wether it be district playoffs or not it's still playoffs. Same as baseball.

That's all fine and good, but you are discriminating against teams that actually do win in district, some all their games but maybe 1.

If its the 0 win teams that is the problem for you then have a rule that says you have to win a district game then and if a team doesn't and that leaves only 3 teams to make the playoffs then give the 1 seed a bye the first week. Problem solved.

Using blowouts as a reason not to play the games is a bad excuse also, there are blowouts in just Bout every round.

You'll never convince me that Simon Kenton got anything positive out of the drubbing at Trinity 2 years ago (and I'll predict the 2 kids that left the field in ambulances would agree) nor will you convince me that it would have been better for George Rogers Clark to finish their season on a high note with their first win in the final regular season game.

While I do not subscribe to your view of what Regular Season district play is, I certainly see your point and where you are coming from.

No, I found 11 teams that were tied to get in the playoffs in a 2 team system which proved your so called "fluke" not a fluke when it happens every year.
NO you didn't find 11 that would be affected because 6 of those teams would still move on in a 2 team scenario.
Who cares about the money, the kids don't play for money. That is a horrible reason. As I said already, if you don't want to play in the playoffs then don't play or even better if you can't afford to play then why have a football team in the first place? Money shouldn't be the factor that determines the playoffs and as I already stated before then have a district playoffs the first 2 weeks to determine who goes to regionals.

Yes, let's have district playoffs right after we finish District Play. Your logic is laughable.

You contradict yourself constantly. Its actually very funny. If I covered up your name and read some of your responses, I would have guessed you were someone different.

They did a few years ago, top 4 teams in the district played each other in the first two rounds with the winner facing another district champ for the region.

I for one would rather play a team from another district than someone we've already played before.

As for those praising the baseball/softball/basketball way of doing things...really? You can go into the playoffs and lose your second or third game and move on to the regionals. How can you guys justify a Playoff Loser moving on?
