Football Playoff Survey Released, Board Approves Results

It would work. Every system will leave someone out unless you let all in. If you don't want to come in 3rd in a 3 way tie then don't lose.

There is NO reasonable format that will not work and there is NO format that will not have flaws and please everyone.

That is a pretty poor answer. Don't you get it, they won more games than any other team in their district, even beating the team that got the #1 seed.

You want to use that lame answer then let's do away with playoffs all together and simply say every team can play until they lose a game, that starts week 1 of the season, your team losses the first game of the season then they are done, we'll simply continue each week until there are only 2 undefeated teams in each class and they play eachother.

You don't get it do you? South Oldham beat Conner in the regular season, Conner beat Cooper in the regular season, Cooper beat South Oldham in the regular season. Coopers record in the regular season was 9-1, Conners record in the regular season was 8-2, South Oldhams record in the regular season was 8-2. The district seedings were as follows, So. Oldham #1, Conner #2, Cooper #3, yet your solution is to just not lose, even though Conner and So Oldham had more losses.

Again your solution would have left out the 2nd best team in the state in that class out of the p,ayoffs.

If you don't want to come in 3rd then don't lose....that has to be the silliest answer ever.

Again, I still have not heard one reasonable answer to why people are against more than 2 teams from each district making the playoffs. I also have never heard any of these same lame whines when it comes to baseball or basketball etc. only football.

I guess lame ? get lame answers. I guess that's why they put a tie-breaker system in, in case of ties. I believe Bourbon Co. won a state title as a 3 seed. Again there are no formats that will please everyone.

You said my format would not work, that's a lame statement. It would work easily.

If you presented it with a legitimate reason then I'd consider it, but the reason you gave as to just not lose is not a reasonable answer. Going your route then you'd have to do what I said and that is p,at until you lose starting week 1 of the season, that my friend is your solution and a pretty silly one.

You just showed even more proof why a 2 team per district playoff is the dumbest of all when you talked about Bourbon Co. Winning state as a 3 seed. With your solution the best team in that class wouldn't of even been in the playoffs.

Again, you gave no reasons not to have more than 2 teams in the playoffs, instead you actually proved my point.

I am actually in favor of 4 teams making playoffs. Always have been. I simple was showing a way to eliminate 1 round of playoffs and then have class champions play each other for a Div championship.

I would not lose my mind if only 2 teams made playoffs. It would make those 3-4 district games for seeding really important and it would also put pressure on coaches to upgrade schedule so they would get points for beating teams with wins in case of a tie-breaker.

I love HS football and think the current way is just fine, why would we want to eliminate a week of football?

I would be very upset if only 2 teams made the playoffs, first off there is absolutely no reason to only have 2 teams and secondly, as you and I have already shown, with only 2 teams you have a much greater chance to not see the best teams win state.

Well if you would go back and read my 1st post I actually added a extra week of CHAMPIONSHIP FOOTBALL. Not only would we have 6 class champions we would let them play for division championship. How could someone who loves HS football not love that?

My idea was to also have district championships. I just think only allowing 2 teams per district in is stupid. Why would anyone want to keep some of the best teams in the state out of the playoffs? That is what I had a problem with. Your 2 team idea would not only leave at least 1 of the top 10 teams in the entire state last year out of the p,ayoffs, but also at least one regional champion and at least 1 state championship game team.

Actually I don't want to implement the system until 2017 season. I don't want to take any hardware away from teams that have already won things. That way teams, coaches, communities would have 4 years to come to the realization that if you can't come in 1st or 2nd in a 4 or 5 team district, you wont be in the playoffs.

Well I hope you don't mind me saying this, but that is the stupidest system ever.

Don't you like playoffs? Don't you want the best chances for the best teams to win?

There are so many flaws in your system I don't even know where to begin.

Why even have playoffs in the first place if you don't want great teams in them?

There were 92 schools that wanted to change from 4 teams in playoffs. 39 voted for 3 and 53 voted for 2. I guess color them stupid with me.

I personally didn't have a huge problem with the intra-district playoff system when they had it, though I will admit that as a Warren Central fan, it does not appeal to me having to play Bowling Green in the second round every single year. At least now it can be delayed a week.

I think a great many have the problem with the round 1 blowouts, but what is really an affront to some is the idea of a winless team making the playoffs. Or really that there are so many more teams that are completely in over their head. They don't bring fans to the games, and yes, it costs money. Yes, there are blowouts in other rounds, but the further you go into the playoffs, the less likely that fans will just say "screw it" and not come. But round 1, many do. Even if you remove the travel aspect, you're still taking a bath on the gate oftentimes.

Why? Every team makes the playoffs in every other sport in the state of Kentucky, go win less in basketball you still get to play in the district. I've seen teams in 3 team districts with just a win or two by virtue of blind draw get a bye to the District Finals which then even with a loss moves them on to the Regionals. No one ever complains about that.

Almost every other sport has off season competition available, but Football does not. No AAU Summer Football, or Spring Ball, no summer Rec leagues. The opportunities to play tackle football are few compared to other sports, most of which you can continue to play after high school. The fact that a win less team or a team with one wins gets into a tournament isn't a big deal, I'd rather have every kid in that state have a chance to play at least one more game that to limit to the elite few teams year in and year out.

How do you decide the 3 way tie for 2nd in a district. This happens every year, one team sweeps the district and the other 3 split with each other...which 2 teams do you leave home? Some districts are much tougher than others, in some districts it is much harder to come in third than it is to win or come in second in other districts.

How would 3rd or 4th place teams in the district be some of the best teams in the state? There are certainly fluke years where there are ties, but you can't structure the system around these fluke years. I have read through a number of threads and you always seem to want to use the exceptions to proove the rule. Yes, there are 3rd and 4th place teams who have advanced to to the Semi's or the Finals. Yes there are years where there are 3-way ties and someone may get left out with the tie-breaker. A significant majority of the time, 3rd and 4th place teams are getting blown out in the 1st round. The truth is the Regular season means something and I would argue that if you can't get 1st or 2nd place out-right in your district, then you are certainly are not one of the best teams in the state and don't deserve to be there. Your regular district games have consequences. If you want to be in the playoffs, then you better WIN them.

You all think you know what the kids want and we just don't. I have seen the games at Beechwood where there are more Players and Coaches than fans for the the team. I see the kids' demeanor when the get off the bus. I don't know for sure because I'm not in their head, but I will tell you that they don't look like they want to play one more game.

As I have said above. They did the survery and voted based on the results. I'm good with it. I think the poll was skewed, but the a majority of the coaches/ADs voted to leave it the same. No Judge needed, No lawsuit needs be brought through the appeals court. It stays the same.

As Dragon already pointed out, a 3rd seeded team won state, and last year Cooper made it to state finals, that's how you end up leading some of the best teams out.

When you say kids don't want to play in the playoffs, that's silly...why do you think they play in the first place? They love the game at least most of them do. You talk about you must win the games, yete you ignore the fact that the best record in the district may still get you a 3 seed, you have no answer for that but just go off and say only the top 2 teams should be in and if you want in then just win. That is not addressing the question, just saying win is just that, a saying because when a team that is a 3 seed does win more than the 2 and 1 seed you have no argument.

A 2 team playoff lost the vote and proves that the AD's etc. got it right. a 2 team playoff system is silly. I'm still waiting for those all for the 2 team playoff system to start your rants about baseball and basketball etc. Wonder why that argument never comes up for other sports? More teams make Basketball and baseball playoffs than football, yet people seem to only harp on football, must be a jealousy thing.
