Florida Gators LB Antonio Morrison arrested for barking at police dog

Featured Replies

Florida Gators linebacker Antonio Morrison has been arrested again. It is the second time in just over a month that the promising young linebacker has been cuffed and this time it is all because of harassing a police dog. He was arrested for harassing a police animal and resisting a officer without violence, according to the Alachua County jail system.

Morrison apparently began barking at a police dog before he was taken in to police custody:

Morrison’s last arrest came on June 16 for a misdemeanor battery charge after he allegedly punching a bouncer at a nightclub.

It’s obviously not the best look for Morrison and it can’t make head coach Will Muschamp happy. It is unlikely that Morrison will receive any serious punishment from the team, but he is starting to walk on thin ice.

Morrison was named to the All-SEC Freshman Team just a year ago and he will look to continue that success in his sophomore season if he is able to stay away from being locked up.

Coach said he will be out "at least" the first 2 games.

It's not a serious crime or infraction but it's a trend. Also it makes him look like a complete idiot. Can't wait to see the posters at games this season. Any chance we see opposing fans waiving muzzles or dog collars?

Obstructing official barkness?

That's what I was wondering....I would think police would have better things to do than bother with some idiot barking at a dog.

Breaking the dogs concentration.

Ill assume alcohol played a part in some of this

I wouldn't. Some people are just silly by nature.

Verbal assault of an officer.

Charges have been dropped.

Here's the explanation:

William P. Cervone, state attorney for Florida's Eighth Judicial Circuit, said the case was tossed for lack of evidence to warrant or sustain misdemeanor charges of interfering with a police animal and resisting arrest.

"Having reviewed the law and the evidence, specifically including the video what occurred, I have today filed a dismissal of all charges against Antonio Morrison related to his arrest on July 21 for interfering with a police dog and resisting an officer," Cervone said in a statement released by his office Tuesday. "This dismissal is based on the lack of evidence to warrant much less legally sustain those charges and the complete inappropriateness of pursuing court action against Morrison, or anyone else, under the circumstances involved.

"To be fair, law enforcement officers are not lawyers or fully aware of what the courts require. Nonetheless, fair or not, their decisions must meet those standards. The charge of interfering with a police animal requires malice, and none exists."

"I challenge anyone who looks at the video of the incident to find any resistance, physical or otherwise, beyond questioning the actions of law enforcement, which is not illegal," Cervone said in a statement.

In the video, Morrison begs officers not to arrest him and tells them the K9 officer barked at him first.

"Officer, please let me go," he said. "I'm not looking for any trouble. I just said, ‘Woof, woof.'"

Arnold is unsympathetic.

"You're getting it. You're not getting it at all," he tells Morrison. "You can continue to sit here with your crocodile tears and ask me for favors and do whatever. I'm telling you, you're going to jail for interfering with my dog. That's it."

Arnold is heard later saying his "patience is pretty thin."

Sounds like the officer might have been having a bad night and was in no mood for shenanigans.

If the dog was in the cruiser, what was he interfering with? His nap? This is silly.

Why do people think they can just do whatever they want? Those dogs are about $20k. They certainly don't need idiots barking at them cause they think its funny. Glad he got arrested and got the negative Pub. I could care less if he got the charges dropped. That stuff happens all the time. At least he got exposed for being a tool box
