My understanding on the situation is that the officer was involved in another situation (possibly a traffic stop?) when the barking incident occurred. The officer then had to divert his attention from the stop to see why his dog was getting riled up. Hence the interference charge.

What about all of the officers that leave their K-9 partners in the car to die of heat related symptoms? Should they be dismissed or charged. With dogs being that expensive should they be charged with simply cruelty to animals or also destruction of property? Or should we let them go with a suspension? I think the K-9 units are in more danger from their handlers than they are from a goofball barking at them.

They should have searched the dog for weed or something. He was barking at the dog for a reason. Dog got lucky if you ask me. No telling where the dog was hiding his stash.

Can you specific examples? Every k9 handler I know's vehicle runs at all times.

Obviously not knowing the extent of how much he barked at the dog, I can't say with any certainty... But on the surface, this looks a bit silly to me. Both by Morrison (barking at a dog), and the cop (over-reacting).

Honestly, I know people who do things like this...they're silly people, and usually trying to be the "life of the party". I don't know any who mean ill toward a dog when they do it....but on the other hand, they aren't the most mature people I've ever met, either.

Hopefully they were punished. 6 isn't an extreme number. I bet more people are killed by officers cars, than service dogs by their handlers leaving them in hot cars.

 

Honestly I don't know how any of this applies to a story of a moron thinking he was funny by barking at a dog.

 

My guess is those who suggest this was an attempt to be the "life of the party" is likely being naive. To get arrested for that, I'd bet it was an extremely loud and obnoxious bark.
