However- this team couldn't score enough to keep up with say 2011. Sorry guys, just my take, it doesn't mean 94 wasn't a great team.

Blaine Ayers Corey- as a former coach of the new Trinity football, I disagree 100%. You and Phill were great. Your D was great, no question.

 

However, we lost 4 games that year, and almost lost to Central in the playoffs.

 

2011 beat every team they played, including at least 3 teams that won State Championships, at least as many national ranked teams, and won a national title.

 

Ryan White is the best DB I've seen since Logan (who was a safety) not to mention Hatcher on the DL.

 

Also, Quick is the best player to have played at Trinity.

 

Again, none of this takes away from y'all's greatness that I was just fortunate to be along for the ride. Your team had the best two LBs in recent history if not all time for Trinity.

Todd Matthew Weber I still agree that the competition was better when Shawn, Phil, Metzmeier, Ralston Ruckreigel, Ramey, etc. Don't get me wrong the teams in the last couple years have been fantastic but I am still a huge fan of the team in the above picture. We will see how Quick plays in college. He is a phenominal athlete and should be fantastic college player but to say he is the best to come out of Trinity is a bit too much. Trinity has had many great football players.

Todd Matthew Weber Wins and losses weren't everything Blaine. The competition for Trinity now is weaker then it was back then and I graduated as a Trinity Shamrock and am proud graduate. I wasn't a football player at Trinity but supported the football team as much as I could while being there.

I played for Lampley, I played for Servino, and coached under Beatty. I have a very unique point of view of all this, and I go back to what I said at the beginning. 94 team couldn't score enough to beat 2011, the offenses are too different. And I don't care how good our D was in 94. a cover 3 defense vs 2011 Trinity would get scored on like crazy.

I don't get the competition argument. In-State, yeah. Trinity only really has to beat St. X. However, Trinity ran the table w/ the TN schools, Cathedral, and swept the GCL South. It doesn't get much more challenging than that for 6 out of 9 regular season games.

It's tough to say w/ how much offenses have changed. Who knows how well they would have done if they had faced spread offenses for a couple of seasons? I didn't see much of the '94 team, other than they held Alexander to 90 yards. What was their schedule?

I agree. I know one staffer who thinks the 1988 squad was the best. I know another former coach who feels the 1976 team would give the Beatty teams fits defensively. They were a nasty bunch.

I saw 1988 too, very strong. 76 was before my watching other teams time but wasn't that in an era where Trinity's offense left a lot to be desired?

Trinity in the 80s and 90s is difficult to compare to the teams now. I was at Trinity when the style crossover happened. Chuck Servino, Kevin Wright, and Bob Beatty all had time as varsity head coach during my time there. Before Kevin Wright, if you were a talented athlete, you almost universally played defense. The 1997 State Championship game between Trinity and St. X was a testament to how our programs played in those years. The only time one team managed to get close enough to score was on a Trinity fumble; X capitalized and kicked a field goal to win 3-0. Awful. In my mind, that kick was the only time all afternoon either team's offense got to the other side of the 50.

 

Anyway, the point is that it's a difficult comparison. That 1994 team's defense was OUTSTANDING. I only saw the championship game and I was a kid, but that much was obvious even to me.

 

But top-to-bottom that 2011 team had an insane amount of talent. I'm going to take them in this game.

The 94 teams seems to have been a team that corrected the course and started charging full steam ahead very late in the season, almost too late with near loss to Doss in the first round of the play offs. Saying that, when you look at the teams from 2012, 2011, 2002 (Brian Brohm, TaShawn McBroom and company), 1988 (Jeff and Greg Brohm) and earlier, I think many people may say the 1994 team was not even in the top 5 of Trinity teams. I was a Freshman in college at that time so I cannot comment. One of Trinty's most talented teams did not win state (1983 I think??). The team had Carwell Gardner, Andy Murray, Piefer (I am completely blanking on his first name) along with numerous others who went on to play at UK or similar colleges when going to play at UK meant ALOT more than it does now. Some may say they were better than 94.

Trinity 2011 was not only the best ever team in the state of Kentucky, it was also one of the best all time teams nationally.I would put them in the Top Ten of all time best ever teams nationally. I've watch a lot of high school football teams over the years & 2011 Rocks ranks up there with the best of them!! 2011 Rocks had no weaknesses. The perfect offense with an all senior O-line that was one of the all time best O-lines ever in this state. Wright,Dawkins & Quick was the best H.S. Trio I ever seen at the skill position. Wright passed for well over 3000 yards, Dawkins rushed nearly 2000 yards 34 TDs & Quick had nearly 1500 yards receiving 22 TDs. Also the Perfect Defense. Ryan White & Adam Reynolds were super in the Secondary, Lbs were solid with Bertram in the middle & the fast Twin brothers on the outside & the D-line was just unreal & nasty led by Adam Berry, Jarbari, & Hatcher!!! Make no mistake the Schedule they faced was one toughest nationally & they Destroyed them.

 

BTW- I got a chance to see the 94 rocks play & all I can tell you is The 2011 Rocks would have Dismantled the 94 rocks by 4 tds or better. Again,that's no disrespect to the 94 rocks but 2011 rocks were just that much better. It's no fluke that they were crowned National Champions in several of the polls.
