Good question DF, does anyone know what Cooper returns?

Many of Cooper's players were seniors and went both ways last year. However, I hear that they have the program on the right track. Once they don't have to play so many players both ways, they will be a major threat to go all the way. To their credit last year, they were very well conditioned and didn't give up at all against BGHS in the championship game.

I know people will struggle with this thought based on their history but Scott high school will be pretty darn good this year!

Freshman accomplishments are just that. I am of the belief that success at the freshman level does not equate to success at the HS level.

1. Bowling Green (much more loaded than last year experience wise! Former Warren East head coach Ben Bruni is new OL coach and will make the OL a formidable unit!)

8. Franklin Co (needs to learn to play defense)

13. Greenwood (new head coach is former BGHS OL coach)

I disagree, with Bunton at QB they won't miss a beat IMO.

 

I agree. Warren Central reloads very well and they have a great coach in Rogers. John Hardin and Warren Central have been the #2 & #3 team in 5A the last couple of years and think it will be the same this year.

Cooper has their 2 top WR's the last 2 years returning. They have their starting CBs returning as well as their starting MLB as well as a 2yr starting FB/RB

 

They also depending on who starts at QB could have their starting TE returning to that position.

 

Their big question is at QB and the line. I disagree that they are a shell of the team last year although I am not predicting a run like last year either. Their sr class is very talented.

WC replaces a three year starter at QB; I'd say having them pegged at 5 is right, I may even put them a little lower at 6 or 7. No way they are the third or fourth best team in 5A right now.

Replacing the QB in Warren Centrals offense is easily done. Replacing what they lost on the OL/DL will be much tougher. They will still be more athletic than anyone in 5A not named BG, John Hardin, or Christian Co.

While I like Cooper they are not a Top 5 team...yet. Currently I would put them around the 10 mark or on the frindge of Top 10. They lost 5 great seniors and coming close to filling those shoes will be extremely difficult. However, this team is going to compete and surprise a whole lot of teams on their schedule who think they were one hit wonders last season. Key will be the O-line who who accounted for 3 of those 5 players and of course the QB position. My opinion is that the current QB may return to TE for the betterment of the team and look for them to move a more athletic player to the QB position who can do more with his feet and get the skill position players like Bricking and Morgan the ball in "space". Defensively they will be solid flying around as usual.

 

I would watch out for Scott, South Oldham and John Hardin. These teams will be very difficult and a sleeper could be Anderson Co. even though Cooper handed them a nasty loss last year in the playoffs. And of course we all know BG has already assigned lockers at WKU for the championship game as well they should because they are just that good!

Last year Bush had both Porter-Bunton and Carver to throw the ball to (along with a terrific running game), now you take Bush out, move P-B to QB, and you have one proven target in Carver to throw the ball to.

Whitney holds more passing records than Bush, guaranteed. WC is just not the passing team that they were under Cox or Wood (the later years), and those are the two coaches who threw more than any in Central's history. Also, don't forget, Porter-Bunton was not a proven target either. Last year was his first year as a WR.

 

It was 2011 when Central set the school record for points scored, though last year did a fine job as well. Central's offense probably won't be quite as potent with Porter-Bunton, but he gives them different options than Bush did. Bush was the superior passer, but Porter-Bunton is a superior runner. They will do different things. Think more of how the first team under Rogers looked than the next three.

 

As for Hayes, Bowling Green also throws far more than Central dreams of doing. Not exactly an apples to apples comparison.

Shelby County will be no where near the top 10 this year, they lost a ton from last year's team.

I think 5A is Bowling Green's to lose. They may lose this year, but I don't think it will be to a 5A team. Their out of district schedule is very tough with Lexington Catholic, Owensboro, McCallie and Blackmon Tn. and St. X. I personally don't think they will lose any, but I'm a big homer. I don't expect others to feel the same way. I think they will be much improved from last year and they were pretty good last year.

What everybody is not saying is will BG's defense be the same without Grifth? I know they still have good coaches plus players but it will be interesting. Grifth's son was a solid DE/OLB is gone and their starting SS 16 graduated who I thought was their best defensive player.

Losing Coach Griff is the great unknown! I guess time will tell.
