But that talent won't just show up. 4 kids won't just come out and the coach say, "Hey, we can two platoon now." You have to commit to it early and grow those players over time. If Cooper had done that two years before they could have fared a little better against BG.

I doubt that very seriously. You either have the talent or you don't. You show me one player who was better than Taylor Centers and who would of been a better choice to play instead of Taylor.

I guess it's hard to know if you don't know the team.

 

They have been having kids the 2 previous years strictly playing or grooming for specific positions on only one side of the ball, but when they aren't as good as a player that happens to play 2 ways you are not going to be a better team by simply playing those kids in front of the ones that go both ways.

 

I'll put it this way and use Conner as an example instead of Cooper. Last year do you really think Conner would have been better if Fogle only played offense and not defense or vice versa? There is no way you will ever convince me or anyone who knows Conner that they would have been better playing someone else in front of him.

The players that the Purples and other large teams platoon on the field are not the best players on offense and defense. Nacarius Fant is a great defensive back, but he doesn't play on defense. The players that have platooned are better prepared because they can concentrate on one side of the ball. Those good players are better, if they are rested. Mediocre players get better faster, when they play. If everyone does their job, it works. I have watched Bowling Green win a state title in 1995 with lots of players going both ways and despite all that talent, it was a much harder road to win it. If you have the players to platoon, use them. If not, play what you have. It's all about numbers, really.

5a is very competitive outside the top two. BG and JH, Rest of state gets to fight at the other Bracket.

You are right and this year they finally have a large number of sophomores coming out to play.

 

Last year the freshman teams philosophy changed and have more kids excited about football. I think a major asset has been the formation of the union jags which feeds 7th an 8th graders into Coopers football teams and this will be the 3rd year of that feeder program.

 

You have to remember that last year was only the 5th year of the schools existence so it took a few years to build the participation up into the program. The SR's last year for some had been playing varsity since freshman.

 

They are finally getting the numbers up now so hopefully they will get to the talent level to be able to platoon. But for last years team and this years they didn't have that luxury just yet.

No offense....but they aren't even top 15 imo. Better have more than just Harris, esp this year. Think he might have a slight target on his back esp now. Kid is unreal but don't see much of a passing threat, but again dont know who the QB is either.

First round of the playoffs are generally bye weeks for the teams that are good. Don't tell me they won a few first round games and act like that means something. If your the number one seed in your district, your playing the worst team from the other district. If your 8-2 and losing in the first or second round, your probably not a good team. I think that's what Ram is saying.

Disagree. You could have two top 10 teams in the same district. Finishing in top 8 is nothing to dismiss. But does not automatically place you in top 10.

 

Basketball is a great example... The top 16 teams ARE NOT in the Sweet 16.
