FWIW, this year's 6A playoff alignment would put Scott County on the road at Trinity (or St. X or Male) in the state semifinals.

Isn't that what happened this past year? Scott lost to T at T in the semis? I'll give Scott Co some credit that they hung in there though they couldn't move the ball.

NCC I would be my guess for reasons already given.

I think T might have a rough time but they find a way to get it done even on "down" years.

Newport Central Catholic, IMHO, was the weakest State Champion in all 6 classes by a good margin. A Caldwell County team who should have been a year away from having a legit chance at the Title gave them everything they wanted and came a couple plays away from winning. I think there is no doubt NCC's target seems to be a bit bigger than anyone else.

Central may be vulnerable as well even though they have an extremely experienced team returning. It appears 3A football is finally starting to raise to Central's level over the past couple years as evident by there narrow escapes throughout the playoffs last season. With that said, a close win is still a win and noone has been able to get over the hump and prove they can knock them off.

What the hell you mean by the weakest state champion? NCC beats mayfield and the 3A state champ last year, gimme a break. Dont forget they had to go on the road and beat a very good somerset team. Sure the score was close against Caldwell, NCC was banged up and playing almost every kid both ways on a 70 degree day in December and with Caldwell two platooning its kids and a few turnovers, helped keep it close. NCC moved the ball most the game, and Caldwell only had a cpl of drives. Their first TD drive should have never gotten started due to an illegal chop block on the DE during the QB throwback pass in the end zone which should have resulted in a safety. If you have access, watch the game film again and you will see. Caldwell was very lucky that game was close. With that being said, somerset and Caldwell both were very capable of winning a championship in 1A, 2A or 3A title last season.

I ask you, find another 1A or 2A school that played a tougher schedule than NCC in 2012.

Caldwell should be very good this season and should be the favorite. You can't have a QB that good and not be. They should win it the next two seasons.

You make my point about how weak that part of the state is in football if Caldwell was a year away from being there. If they would have played NCC in the semis, they don't make it lol.

Do some research and tell me since 2000, what team has been in the 1A or 2A state title game almost every year.......I think all but one year maybe.

Not to put words in ATLcat's mouth but I think his post was pretty straightforward. In his humble opinion, NCC was the weakest of the 6 teams that won a state championship. No hidden meanings.

I can see a new thread with poll on the horizon.

Mayfield vs NCC would have been a toss up, Central would have owned NCC.

NEWPORT CENTRAL CATH vs CALDWELL COUNTY (Dec 01, 2012)

Here's the stats if anyone wants to debate it.

Again the question was not "which team is not favored to repeat?" It was which will have the toughest road. For Trinity to get out of the district and region is the toughest IMO because of the quality teams they will face. Let's face it in some classes (1A and 2A) we can just about pencil in the contenders year in and out and there aren't a lot of them. Those champs may have 1 or 2 tough games in all the playoffs and sometimes 0.

And before we go handing out championships in pre-season remember that 1 or 2 injuries in the small classes can really turn a team's season sour. All the state champs have a chance to repeat. Not all will. But some will get deep in the playoffs just because there isn't that much competition.

Mayfield vs NCC would have been a toss up, Central would have owned NCC.

I'm glad I don't pay money to read these uneducated opinions......oh wait, I do.........

Caldwell County 2012

Oct 26, 12 Mayfield away 7 - 48 (L) Running Clock

Dec 1, 12 Newport Central Catholic at Feix Field, Houchens Stadium, WKU 26 - 30 (L)

That really says it all

NCC easily the weakest title team last year

It often amazes me when I see this kind of delusional stuff on here

NKYfootballfan91, are you sure you were even at the same game I was at in Bowling Green? Caldwell County and NCC were very well matched up. Caldwell County had the opportunity to have a good group of players that have a lot of talent and we are quite proud of them, WIN OR LOSE. That said, we can not pick and choose our players as Caldwell County is a PUBLIC school, not a private Catholic school that can go out and get players from other school districts.

I'm glad I don't pay money to read these uneducated opinions......oh wait, I do.........

Too funny. Nothing like a little bias to color one's supposed educated opinions, is there? Keep workin on it, you'll get it someday.

Please don't bother, he's shown a complete lack of understanding reality when it comes to NCC.

The stats make it look like a pretty closely contested game. I tend to agree that these teams were very evenly matched last year and NewCath prevailed because of a senior laden squad with good leadership. Caldwell County will certainly be the favorite in 2013.

The Sindelar kid is a stud and I believe he has all of his receivers returning. With this said, NCC has a very tough road to a repeat.

I'll be your Huckleberry

Mayfield would have defeated NCC and Central would have won by 2-3 TD's if not more.

You seriously want to compare Central's schedule and NCC's? Let's focus on Non-District

New Cath

Dixie Heights (win) : 3-8

Archbishop McNicholas (loss): 7-4

Campbell County (blowout loss): 7-5

Simon Kenton (Loss): 9-4

Holmes (loss): 6-5

Beechwood (blowout win): 9-5

Central

Manual (Blowout win):4-7

Evansville Reitz (Blowout win): 9-4

DeSales (win): 9-5

Ballard (win): 9-4

Western (Blowout win): 7-6

St. Xavier (loss): 8-5

PRP (loss): 14-1

Central not only played an exponentially more difficult schedule.. they faired exponentially better against it.

For your other points:

"Dont forget they had to go on the road and beat a very good somerset team."

The same Somerset who lost at home 24-13 to 3A Breathitt County (who were proven to be a pretender and not a contender)? The same Somerset who narrowly defeated a second tier 1A Hazard at home 17-9? I agree that outside of the Beechwood shelling (a Beechwood team who was dominated in a similar fashion by Mayfield), that somerset was NCC's signature win.. but let's not make the Jumpers into a juggernaut when they may not have even been a Top 7 team in 3A.

"Sure the score was close against Caldwell, NCC was banged up and playing almost every kid both ways on a 70 degree day in December and with Caldwell two platooning its kids and a few turnovers, helped keep it close"

- Injuries accumulate over 15 games..it doesn't take away from my assessment. As stated, the NCC team I saw would have been physically dominated by a Central team with superior depth and players only going one way had they played that same day.

I ask you, find another 1A or 2A school that played a tougher schedule than NCC in 2012.

Mayfield:

@ 5A Warren Central (loss)- The 3rd best 5A team in the State

vs. 4A MAdisonville-North Hopkins (blowout win)

vs. 3A Paducah Tilghman (Blowout win)

@ 2A Murray (blowout win)- Dominating win against a team who was easily a Top 5 2A team

@ 5A Graves County (blowout win)

@ 6A Marshall County (blowout win)

vs. 2A Caldwell County (blowout win)

I will give NewCath the slightly tougher schedule nod.. but whereas NewCath stumbled to 2 wins against teams a combined 12-13... Mayfield dominated everyone on their schedule with the exception of a Warren Central team who was the best team either squad faced.

"With that being said, somerset and Caldwell both were very capable of winning a championship in 1A, 2A or 3A title last season."

-Just no... as already mentioned a Breathitt County team that was essentially a one man show and who got absolutely seal clubbed against Belfry beat Somerset on their home field by 2 TD's... and a Hazard team who probably wouldnt have been able to stay withing 5 TD's of Mayfield gave the Jumpers all they wanted.

You also conveniently forget Caldwell County played Mayfield.. they lost 48-7. One of Caldwell's other losses was to 3A Trigg County. Trigg County wasn't even a Top 10 team in their class...probably not even Top 15. I will emphatically state that neither team would have had a legitimate shot at winning 1A and 3A. Somerset would have been competitive against Mayfield, but would not have advanced out of their region in 3A.

"You make my point about how weak that part of the state is in football if Caldwell was a year away from being there. If they would have played NCC in the semis, they don't make it lol."

Of course they don't make it.. NCC was the best team in 2A and the class on the whole was considerably weak.

Do some research and tell me since 2000, what team has been in the 1A or 2A state title game almost every year.......I think all but one year maybe.

- I acknowledge your point..but what does 2000 have to do with 2012 and 2013? Mayfield has been to 4 Straight Finals. Central has been to the Finals and WON 5 of the past 6 years... aren't these just as viable of stats?

Once again..for emphasis:

Newport Central Catholic, IMHO, was the weakest State Champion in all 6 classes by a good margin.

You can't compare scores. You know that as well as I do. Every year people do this. It is about match-ups, not about score comparisons.
