In that case. Why wouldn't walker be a prohibitive favorite?

It was posted barker and bonnafon were the 2 favorites. Based on what you said I don't understand how walker, the tigers leading rusher the past 2 years wouldn't be considered a favorite.

On paper it is about the player's senior season but as Clyde said most, if not all voters will likely remember each player's entire career.

To answer your question....Walker isn't the prohibitive favorite because Barker has been a star since his sophomore season. Barker committed to UK. Barker is ranked among the best of the nation's quarterbacks and players. Barker is known throughout the state while Walker is just now gaining publicity. It is Barker's award to lose.

Maybe I shouldn't have said prohibitive favorite but walker too has been a star since his sophomore year. I'm not saying he should be a lock to win, just saying he shouldn't be excluded when mentioning favorites. He shouldn't have been an afterthought.

He's a favorite. Not the prohibitive favorite but he is a favorite. Top 3, top 5 favorite for sure.

He's only the 4th player that has been mentioned. How is he an afterthought or not considered a favorite? I don't think anyone is excluding him nor saying he shouldn't be considered.

It took an x guy to mention him, he wasn't mentioned in the same breath as the other 3.

That is revealing. It took an X guy to mention him, which could mean he is not known around the state. I follow a lot of high school football, I am on BGP a lot ... I know very little about Walker. I did not he has been X's leading rusher the past two years till I read this thread.

I will say that if Barker equals his season of last year, I will be very impressed. His team lost a lot from last year...a lot.

Yea he's been the leading rusher since his sophomore year, he's also been to multiple camps earned mvps, he also ran a 4.4 at uofl camp

Come on, Avid. Charles Walker was mentioned in post #4 of a thread that was started yesterday. He was mentioned a whopping 50 minutes after the thread was initially started. I think he is getting his just due.

I think our very own Matt Elam has a great shot at winning Mr. Football. He is currently ranked as a 5 Star and 10th overall player in the nation by 247 sports. He currently holds offers from Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Louisville, Kentucky, Western Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky, Indiana, Purdue. His stock recently blew up after dominating the big boys at Alabama's Ellite Prospect Camp. Saban called him the best defensive lineman prospect in the nation.

Barker and Matt have both been invited to play in the US Army All American game. I believe it definitely comes down to these two athletes. However, Im pulling for another defensive guy to win! It's time for the big guys to get some love! :ylsuper:

You can say the same for Barker. Considering I am a Kentucky Football fan, I only know of Barker based on his recruitment through UK. I couldn't tell you one opponent on Conner's schedule or how he performed in a game. However, all of the state is watching when St. X and Trinity clash. Would be accurate to say the best two teams have the best two players (Reggie/Charles)

Drew Barker could add to the list of UK Quarterbacks that have won Mr. Football though. I think this trend helps him out with the voters.

1995- Tim Couch (Leslie County)

1998- Jared Lorenzen (Ft. Thomas)

2011- Patrick Towles (Ft. Thomas)

But, Deuce Finch won the award as St. X's running back in 2008... he was a three year starter as well... history could repeat on that end for Walker.

Going to be a great season for all the athletes mentioned! [put Fant down as my dark horse to win it]

Not really, I'd say it would be more accurate to ASSUME that the best two teams in the state have the most depth/skilled players and likely best coaching. I could be wrong, I don't have that Catholic education to help support my claims.

Matt Elam is the best player in Kentucky. Although its hard for lineman to win Mr Football. I think Barker will probably win the award, but Elam is the best overall player in the state. I would love to see him win the award.
