Bill Maher makes fun of Sarah Palin's son

Featured Replies

I don't mind Maher's liberal bias, but minors should be off-limits; regardless of what side of the aisle the taunts are coming from.

Agreed. And he has proven to be a harsh critic of President Obama from time to time as well. I like Maher. His show was a joy to watch.

I still watch his show on HBO. He's brash and at times just plain awful but he gets great guests and often has really good panel discussions.

What about children who are in the public eye such as actors? I only ask this because we all know every comedian has made fun of a child actor one time or another.

With that said Bill Maher is a hack, one of the worst comedians I've ever watched, I can't stomach him and his liberal bias one bit.

I give comedians a lot of leeway - more than most. However, I just don't think any minor should be the butt of a public joke.

It happens. I remember people being in a furor when Rush Limbaugh referred to Chelsea Clinton as the White House dog.

That was totally uncalled for. Hate the dad all you want but don't make fun of a kid.

Bill MAR was a terrible comedian and a worse talk show host! He is also ugly inside and out! It does not surprise me the the view defended this clown!

I don't consider making fun of children with Downs Syndrome "comedy." Count me out of the Maher fan club.

If I may...the following is a reprint of a blog, TML by Paul Daugherty, that ran on MLK Day in the Enquirer. His daughter, Jillian, and my son both have Down syndrome.

Anybody here seen my old friend Martin. . .

Happy MLK Day to youse, Mobsters. I hope it finds you of benevolent spirit and open mind. The battleground of understanding has shifted some since Dr. King suggested non-violent protest. The clash now occurs more over immigration. But the spirit is unchanged. Sometimes we forget we are a nation of visitors, that the people who made us what we are didnt originate here. I’d hope we’re more tolerant now than we were in 1964. I think we are, in most areas. But not necessarily in the one closest to me.

So before we get on the sports track, indulge The Man a filibuster.

In terms of perception, Jillian The Magnificent is about where blacks were in 1965.

That is, most people don’t see my daughter. They look at her. Seeing implies active engagement, a willingness to venture beyond appearance. Looking is passive. People who look at Jillian see someone who appears different than they are. They’re fearful of that difference, so they don’t engage. People who take the time to see Jillian discover a warmth and genuine-ness not common to “typical” folks.

It’s sad to think of the human potential we wasted for centuries, when white people looked at black people, instead of seeing them.

There is also the problem of language. People who wouldn't think of dropping the N word into any conversation now have no problem using the R word. I heard a lawyer/talk-show host on WLW use it casually the other day, on Eddie and Tracy. Tracy, being Tracy, made a sophomoric little joke about the need to be politically correct.

It’s not funny.

Language colors perception. Perception is reality. Every time I hear a comedian or an actor in a movie use the R word, I want to cry. So if you do nothing else today, in remembrance of Dr. King, please avoid the R Word. Thanks.

I remember when Maher came out with the late-night show that was on ABC (I think ABC). I liked him then, even though I didn't agree with a lot of things he said.

Now? Now I think he's a buffoon, much like all the other political talking heads.

I still watch his show on HBO. He's brash and at times just plain awful but he gets great guests and often has really good panel discussions.

I notice that he has good panels every now and again (and some awful panels as well), but I can't stomach him enough to watch them.

I don't subscribe to HBO, so the only time I even have a chance to watch is when DirecTV offers free HBO weekends; maybe 3 times a year. The movies interest me more, so I might catch an episode or two per year.

I'm more disappointed with the audience roaring with laughter than with Mahler. I expect him to be a moron. As for Barbara Walters, nevermind.

Partly. However, if the child is 18 or older then they're fair game for comedians.

Good point. Otherwise George W. Bush would have forever remained off limits due to his Dad being President...

Palin Challenges Maher for Calling Her Son Trig a 'Retard'

Palin's son Trig has Down Syndrome.

And Barbara Walters says it's OK, because when she was growing up Mentally Challenged were called retarded.

Maher Calls Palin's Son Retarded, The View Justifies It | Independent Journal Review

By that standard there are a lot of things that people used to be called, does that make it OK.

I expect it from Maher. He's slime. Walters pointed out that it is okay to call special needs children retarded, since that is what they were called when she grew up. She admitted an affair with Senator Edward Brooke, who was African American. I wonder, since she was born in 1929, do you think she referred to her lover like a lot of the population did when she was growning up? Do you think she'd be okay with him being called that now?

Partly. However, if the child is 18 or older then they're fair game for comedians.

I don't think its cool to make fun of any mentally handicap person regardless of age.

What kind of idiot makes fun of kids like that? Anyone with any type of conscience or morals wouldn't do that and would make up another thing to say.

God has a place for those like Maher.

So you cant call a homosexual a homo or queer, but you can call a innocent kid with downs syndrome a retard.
