June 18, 201313 yr Most solid companies realize that a good sick policy contributes to the bottom line in the way of attracting and retaining good employees. It's sad that there are still companies who don't get it. Still, you shouldn't legislate stupid.

June 18, 201313 yr We get 5 sick days a year and can either use them or bank them to be used later. Its come in handy for several people who have been here a while and needed time off for a surgery or an illness to a parent or child.
June 18, 201313 yr At my hospital we accrue a certain amount of PTO hours per 80 hours worked based on how many years you've been with the hospital. You can use the hours however you see fit, whether it be for vacation, sick time, etc.... You are allowed 3 call offs per year, anything over that is subject to discipline.
June 19, 201313 yr It's a great benefit, no doubt. To be required by the government to give it, terrible idea. The DOL needs to revisit the requirements for paid sick leave and close the loophole. First group I thought of when I heard this story was unions.
