June 21, 201313 yr UKFan: Would you agree with me that workers also are entitled to maximize their own pay and benefits through any legal means? Or is profit maximization just a one-way street reserved for corporations? Of course they are. And if they don't like the way a business is treating them, they're free to find employment elsewhere. No one is forcing anyone to work somewhere with poor or no benefits. If you choose to be employed somewhere, you choose to accept what they're offering.

June 21, 201313 yr And if they don't like the way a business is treating them, they're also free to organize and bargain collectively. Right? Sure, they can. Employer should also be allowed to tell them we aren't budging so either fall in line or get the hell out.
June 21, 201313 yr Sure, they can. Employer should also be allowed to tell them we aren't budging so either fall in line or get the hell out. I'd hate to sit across from you at the bargaining table!
June 21, 201313 yr And if they don't like the way a business is treating them, they're also free to organize and bargain collectively. Right? And if the boss doesn't want a union shop he has the right to terminate them and hire non-union people right?
June 21, 201313 yr And if the boss doesn't want a union shop he has the right to terminate them and hire non-union people right? And that is my chief complaint about unions. Why should an employee have the right to terminate their employment with a company whenever they want, but an employer isn't given that same right?
June 21, 201313 yr Just as an FYI 4 people took sick days today in my department. lol On a Friday!?! Must be a virus going around....Called weekend-itis.
June 21, 201313 yr Just as an FYI 4 people took sick days today in my department. lol So what are you doing at work? Don't you (cough, cough) have to visit a doc at Lake Cumberland?
June 21, 201313 yr On a Friday!?! Must be a virus going around....Called weekend-itis. 3 of them were pre planned sick days, the other she calls off almost one day a week anyways. shes been with the company forever and has like 100+ sick days.
June 21, 201313 yr And if the boss doesn't want a union shop he has the right to terminate them and hire non-union people right? That's what Wal-Mart allegedly did several years ago. Corporate reportedly heard rumors that some meat-cutters were trying to organize, so they just fired every one of 'em.
June 21, 201313 yr That's what Wal-Mart allegedly did several years ago. Corporate reportedly heard rumors that some meat-cutters were trying to organize, so they just fired every one of 'em. Good for Wal-Mart.
June 21, 201313 yr That's what Wal-Mart allegedly did several years ago. Corporate reportedly heard rumors that some meat-cutters were trying to organize, so they just fired every one of 'em. Well played Wal-Mart.
June 21, 201313 yr Well played Wal-Mart. One would think that non-union Wal-Mart would have lower grocery prices than union Kroger, but that isn't the case. Maybe someone could explain why.
June 21, 201313 yr One would think that non-union Wal-Mart would have lower grocery prices than union Kroger, but that isn't the case. Maybe someone could explain why. I'm going to assume that it's because the grocery aspect of Wal-Mart is secondary. They are a low-cost provider of goods. Kroger is a low-cost provider of food. There is a big difference.
