Incoming Freshman Class at UofL "Maxed Out"

Featured Replies

"An 11.5 percent increase this year in applications for first-year students has prompted UofL to stop accepting first-year applications for fall 2013. The cutoff applies only to first-year students. Applications still are open for transfer students, returning students who are trying to complete their degrees and graduate students. This is the earliest date that UofL has cut off first-year applications, according to admissions Director Jenny Sawyer, and the move is necessary to keep the incoming class from growing too big."

Freshman class maxes out, applications closed ? University of Louisville

Pretty cool for the University, IMO.

U of L has done a superb job in recruiting students in Northern Kentucky! Excellent school with a sparkling reputation in many majors.

UL has been great at getting those kids that are in the top 25% of a high school class because, they probably give out more scholarships than any other state school. It's working too which is very impressive.

My daughter is part of the incoming freshman class. I've been very impressed with Louisville so far.

Agreed with both.

Hopefully she loves UofL as much as I did/do. :thumb:

City College of Louisville?

Several factors in this.

A) Louisville is indeed a good school.

2) Louisville has made an outstanding effort at keeping the best and brightest in the state.

D) Tuitions have gotten so high and state schools are so much more of a value that parents are saying that is where you are going unless you can raise the money yourself.

Where did you go to school?

My son has been accepted and will be attending this fall as a Frosh. We have orientation in a couple weeks.

There is a very strong contingent from Highlands heading there as well.

I have not even been on the campus yet.

The other thing that is happening here is that parents aren't willing to send their kids to private schools anymore. UK had their biggest freshman class last year with over 5000 kids. This year evidently it's supposed to be no different. Kids are willing to go public now because of the money issue.

Let us know how you like it. There have been a lot of changes on and around campus of the past couple years.

How much autonomy does a state college have in setting its admissions standards?

In the case of UL, with so many people wanting to go to school there, this might be an ideal time to raise the standards (not saying they need to be raised but there is nothing wrong with being an excellent school and having that reputation).

What if Pitino wanted to add another recruit to this year's class? :idunno::lol2:

I read that this years incoming Freshmen average ACT score was above 25. I think UofL is already heading in the direction you mentioned.
