Heaven for atheists? Pope says yes...

Featured Replies

No. If you don't believe in him or believe that he exists then why should you be allowed to go to heaven?

!

To triumph over satan.
To triumph over satan.

Michael is the angel of death, carrying the souls of all the deceased to heaven. In this role, at the hour of death, Michael descends and gives each soul the chance to redeem itself before passing, thus consternating the devil and his minions.

I'm not sure I've ever heard that before. What is the basis for this belief? To what do you attribute the origin for it?

I've stated before I don't understand a lot about Catholic history, so forgive me in advance if this question is maybe an obvious one to those who do.

What if it's a completely different God and hereafter that all earthlings find after they die? Wouldnt they be in for a shock! There's many different religions in the world, and all of them believe they have the answer. And, many of them, such as Hinduism, have been around longer than Christianity .

Maybe no one has it figured out and there's a totally different higher power looking down on all of us and smiling about all the shenanigans.

Regardless of what one believes, and there thousands of beliefs all around the globe of how it began and will end, I don't think anyone knows for sure what the answer is. They just hope they're on the right track.

But I've mentioned this before, religions and beliefs are based on geography and the customs/culture where people live. My parents had me in church as far back as I can remember learning about the Baptist faith. At the same time though, thousands of miles away in another part of the world, someone my same age had parents doing the same thing with their children but in a different religion. I guess what I'm trying to say is everyone can't be right. Maybe it is a God that hasn't revealed him/herself and they've decided everyone is going to heaven. Who really knows for sure?

American atheists welcomed Pope Francis’ comments that God redeems nonbelievers

So they don't believe in God but are welcoming to the fact that they can get into Heaven?

.........

I also think people are confusing redemption and salvation. The Holy Father mentioned redemption, which we ALL achieved when Christ died on the cross. The Holy Father did not mention anything about salvation. Only God knows what is in one's heart.

So they don't believe in God but are welcoming to the fact that they can get into Heaven?

.........

I won't debate the theology in this thread, but I have to agree with your remark here.
My Methodist Pastor is in my Sunday school class, we had a similar discussion in Sunday School last week. But we didn't get to this exact discussion. This alone could give us enough material for a couple of weeks Sunday School discussions.

I'll send you a couple extra large LaRosa's pizzas for the discussion, it could go all day.

I have had this same thought once or twice, excellent post.

Just watch what I do, and do something completely different and you'll be ok.

It's just like kickball back in elementary school. Everyone likes to feel included.

New pope a bit of a loose canon ( pun intended). This guy's theology may prove very interesting.

Heaven for atheists. After giving it more thought, wouldn't that basically be here?

There used to be a show years ago (early 80s) called "Steambath", the premise of which was that the Almighty was a towel boy in a steam bath. Funny stuff. Every once in a while he would press a button and say something like, "No clouds over Newark today".

The reaction of the folks waking up in the steambath (afterlife) was often priceless.
