Come on man, a child CAN NOT consent to having sex with an adult. The burden is on the adult. What if this child was 12 and coerced into a sexual encounter with an 18 year old?

Ok lets say your beloved son....who has been hedero sexual all his life..... attracted to girls as far as you know, enters the 9th grade and meets a very charismatic, manipulative, gay 18 year old...lets say this man has a reputation for turning, younger boys into his new Bo..... you as an adult can see the way this kid works...how he turns and manipulates your son, who now is wearing make up, and tighter pants, and has been sexting this 18 year old....... You have talked with your son but he is blinded by his new found love and can not see what your telling him.... You talked and warned the older boy, and he likes to rub in your face what he and your son have no matter what you say.... Do you think that is fine now??? Even though deep down in your heart and your wifes heart, that you know your son is unsure about his sexuality and needs more time to make a responsible deciscion.... Or do you pursue your rights within the law?? Do you risk fighting or threatening the boy, and go to jail yourself??

 

 

Same question asked if you had a daughter and the older boy is 18 already has two other girls pregnant, does drugs, and even sells them, drives really fast and wreckless, and takes your daughter to older parties where there is open sex, drugs, and other illegal activity. He has snuck your daughter out of the house and talked her into skipping school her grades are falling... she was an honor roll student... she is 14 him 18, so you as a parent should not be able to have a a say or a right????

 

There are a lot of hypotheticals in this scenario. Apparently if your son or daughter are dating this type of individual (regardless of age) there are other issues. I would seek to get them some professional help for the drugs. Also, it would be important to note that there may be severe consequences inflicted by your son or daughter for having the love of their life arrested. There has been a lot of reference in this thread as a child and an adult in fact we are talking about two high school students who interact with each and are still trying to figure life out.

Whether the rule is good or not is not germane to the discussion.

I would say that from a maturity/mentality standpoint, the difference between 14 and 18 is minuscule compared to the difference between 18 and 21. With that said, I'm casting a puzzled glance in the direction of those older girls you were hooking up with when you were 18. That's a complete reverse of the way that dynamic usually goes. Kind of hard for 21-year-old partying girls to go to the clubs with an 18-year-old millstone around their neck.

I became sexually active when I was 14 or 15....with other 14 and 15 year olds. I always found it creepy when seniors "dated" freshman.

 

A two year rule would be perfect for situations such as this. A 16 and an 18 year old doesn't seem odd, a 17 and 19 year old seems fine. 18 and 14...it's too much for me.

 

This is not an issue of adult/child, it's an issue of age difference.
