The way the story is told in the link it stated they were classmates. That seems to eliminate middle school to me.

Come on man, a child CAN NOT consent to having sex with an adult. The burden is on the adult. What if this child was 12 and coerced into a sexual encounter with an 18 year old?

If your son truly loves the girl then he should be able to abstain for the period of time until the girl reaches the age of consent. That's the great thing about being human, we can control our urges. And yes, the parents of the girl absolutely have the power to press charges if your son doesn't follow their wishes where their daughter is concerned. And while they may be boorish to do it simply based on race they are 100% within their rights as parents.

There are all kinds of arbitrary cut-offs based on age in the legal system. You either abide by them 100% or you don't. I didn't. But if you don't abide by them and are caught or have a complaint filed against you then you have to face the consequences of your actions.

I would start by not arresting high school classmates within 4 years of each other for consensual sex. That is asinine. If seniors aren't to interact with freshmen then they need to be in different school buildings. It is 100% impossible to keep seniors away from freshmen and no law will change that. Seniors who do interact with freshmen should not be branded sexual predators in non-forcible sexual situations.

I personally find that attitude repugnant BUT any parent is 100% within their rights to enforce their wishes regarding who their children associate with.

I don't like the law. It should be changed. But police and prosecutors can't ignore a complaint that is clearly breaking the law. I think the whole sex offender list needs to be looked at. To many degrees of crime are lumped together.

The girl's parents are mad their daughter is gay and taking it out on the older girl.

 

As long as our kids follow our rules then they are allowed to do as they please. You break the rules you suffer the consequences. Period. The only one who has dated is still with his first girlfriend.

Her mom's wishes have been known by our family and their family. We'll be at her daughter's graduation tonight, she'll be traveling to Myrtle Beach with us in a week and she'll be attending the same college as my son in the fall.
