Not saying I'm 100% sure you're hearing incorrectly, but I would be absolutely SHOCKED if that was really what the house was worth.

 

First of all, I look at the house, and based on my experience I just don't see the cost being there (although admittedly I've not seen any of the interior besides what has been shown in news coverage). I'd guess it's closer to $8 million if I had to guess.

 

Second, there just aren't people building houses that expensive around Cincinnati. And about 99% of the time, the most expensive houses are being built in Indian Hill, where there are similarly priced houses that are going to help keep a new house's value where it actually is instead of dragging the value down. You need only walk about 250 feel down Turkeyfoot Road to find more than a handful of $150,000 duplexes. That neighborhood just isn't where an intelligent person builds the single-most expensive house within 100 miles.

 

Third, a little comparative scale: the most expensive home ever sold in Cincinnati, to date, sold for $11.9 million, about a decade ago. No surprise here, it was in located in Indian Hill - much pricier neighborhood than Edgewood. That house was also 27,000 square feet, as compared to the "measly" 15,000 square feet of the house on Turkeyfoot. Lastly, that house sat on a 5.2 acre lot, as compared to the house on Turkeyfoot, which sits on a lot that I would estimate is somewhere between 3/4 and 1 acre.

 

Also, just one more thing to look at...the ten most expensive home sales in Hamilton, Clermont, Warren, Butler, Boone, Kenton, Campbell, and Dearborn counties in 2011 all took place in Hamilton county. If someone wants to mapquest these, I believe they were ALL in Indian Hill.

One of our illustrious members is very close to the family involved and could have told you guys long ago. But they too were asked not to tell, and they have honored that commitment.

Yeah, I didn't know it went that far back until I looked at google maps when the property was for sale. The for sale sign mentioned 7+ acres.
