I'm not 100% sure he quit but if it is up to Granny then he'll no longer be a part of Hoop Dreams.

At some point people need to quit complaining about the refs. They're always wrong. They never call a game right. It's always their fault. I'm glad I'm not a ref. It would suck to go through life knowing you're always wrong.

 

 

How many of you guys will be at ref school at KBA next year?

I don't like complaining about officials but I have to agree. There were some really really bad calls the entire weekend.

 

What he said. Really, over all, things were better than I have seen in a the past few years at KBA and I saw a few top notch refs this weekend but, man, there were some horrific calls made.

Yeah, that's not going to happen. Every game I watched from Friday to today, there was complete referee bashing from all angles. I understand it's a difficult job and don't get me wrong, there were some great refs there...but there were a few who just weren't up to par.

I don't think it is the first kid to depart from the team this year?

Purple Pride, I think your analysis is generally spot on and like readimg your write-ups! But I gotta disagree with you on this one. Just like with any job, there are those refs that do the job well and those that don't (and we do have some good ones in our 12th region).These folks are paid professionals that know what they are signing up for - it's not forced upon them nor is it volunteer work. Complaining about the refs isn't synonymous with blaming them. They are on the stage, with the players, and are going to be noticed, like the players - good or bad.

 

In my opinion, their goal should be to leave the floor when the game is done having been a non-factor. That's when you know they've done their job. And it does happen a lot - but not always.

 

BTW, I don't think you're favorite high school coach would agree with your position on this???

The Trust team said they didn't play in the state cause of a lack of "talent" in the tourney. They said they beat The Retros already this year. They said there was more talent in the Columbus tourney this weekend... which was correct... but I still don't understand why u wouldn't want to compete for your state's championship??

 

Couldn't disagree more. Anyone could say that, especially someone with a team playing in the Columbus tourney.The Ville, Magic, Next Level, Hoop Dreams, Young Life, and yes, even the NKy Bulldogs... I'd say there was plenty of talent.

The NKY Bulldogs finished with a run to the final 4. Fought and played hard all weekend. If not for an off game Friday night, the team would have finished 4-1, which isn't a bad weekend. Coming off of 3 weeks of injuries and no tournament play, the team was a little rusty, and had added 2 new players who were trying to get into the flow. Nonetheless, a loss is a loss, and a 3-2 finish with a push to be one if the final 4 teams isn't bad.

 

Dre Jackson, Mitch Bolin, Sean Ross, Jaeger Pracht, Matt Mullins had excellent weekends all averaging close to, or over, 10pts a game. Pracht is a stat sheet filler with pts, steals, assts, and rebounds. Austin Schreck was a floor general dishing out assist after assist and d'ing up some of the good guards in Ky, and Andrew Hedger rebounded the ball well and held his own with other bigs in the state.

 

The GREAT thing about this team is the kids play so hard! It could be any kids night when they step on the floor. They play together, and for each other. They are very coachable, they put in the hours in practice, and they are all good kids and have good grades in school.

The Shining Stars 17U group made it to the finals. Tanner Moeves, Landon Lamblez, Mark Schult, Jake Schulte, and others all played their butts off this weekend. Really like Moeves' game and really thought Schulte did a solid job! NCC will be TOUGH next year. Weyer for TBC Elite is a major problem! This kid is tough as nails and will wear you out. Can't wait to see him play in the 9th.

 

Missed the Shining Stars 16U group. Where were they? I know they lost Macdonald, but had a solid team around him last year.

 

Love watching the No. Ky boys play. Someone said the Kentucky Select teams squared off, any idea who won that?

 

All that being said, Carson Williams and Malik Dow had some nice dunks. Perry Ayers for Team Manimal is a player, as is Jared Farris of Manimal, young man is big and strong.

Just a neutral observation. I can't think of any one call made today or any game where I felt like the refs ruined the game. There are refs I like and refs I don't like. I see good refs miss easy calls and bad refs make great calls and vice versa. I see people complain about refs that are believed to be good refs and people that love refs that are believed to be bad refs. I've never seen a game where I haven't seen a missed call or a questionable call and I am sure I never will. I can say it won't ruin my entertainment of the game. As long as refs are human there will be mistakes made. No paid professional is perfect regardless of their profession. Just the way it is. As long as they appear to be trying in earnest then I'm good. You couldn't pay me enough to ref a game.

 

If I had to ref a game with Coach Adams coaching I'd probably be too scared to make a call the whole game. :lol:

 

 

My favorite refs are the ones who talk to the kids and explain what they saw and why they made that call.

This isn't intended to be personal to you TH, but a response to what seems to be the overwhelming general thought these days. What makes those who criticize officials think they are qualified to do so? The old standby's of "I've been watching basketball a long time," or "I was a pretty good player." really don't cut it.

I have no problem with what I bolded from you, if the credentials to make such observations are there. Far too often they are not, and again that's nothing personal as for all I know you've officiated NCAA final fours. lol.

 

You have no idea how many times I've corrected someone sitting near me in the stands who goes nuts over a call, without even knowing the actual rule of the call. I get the normal "oh, really? I didn't know that." and then on the next whistle they go nuts again. Really?
