Summit View beat Campbell County's middle school team 35 to 0!

 

 

Campbell county is apparently way down this year. Summit didn't look very good in the Kenton County scrimmage two weeks ago. Woodland beat them 5 tds to 0

Union Raider Starters backed out of a scrimmage against Walton that was suppose to take place tomorrow. South Kenton starters will scrimmage Walton tomorrow night at 6:15. Taking place at the Walton Sports Complex. Then South Kenton plays Union Raiders Saturday at Ryle!

My son's and his South Kenton starter team mates spanked the Union Raiders starters 5 touchdowns to 2 touchdowns. They scored twice on are little guys. The other starter team tied with the Raiders.

Prayers to the Summit View middle school qb broke his leg against Twenhofel. He had to have emergency surgery after it happened.

Ft Thomas Youth Football League is having a better year. Kids are studs, 7 & 8 th grade teams would probably beat SK's freshmen.

 

Good to hear but what is up with the numbers in FTJFL? I heard they had over 300 kids last year on rosters and barely have over 180 this season in the entire league grades 3rd -8th. They only have 3 teams in the 7/8th grade division as well.

 

Four years ago I believe someone told me they had over 500 kids on rosters in the league.

It is a common theme everywhere(expanded tri-state area), according to the area sporting goods stores and equipment reps.

This is a little out of the norm but the FTJFL is playing 2 out of league teams this Wed at Highlands. The 7/8th Blue is playing Cincinnati St. Ignatius @ 6 and the 7/8th White is playing Newport Central Catholic @ 7:30. With the numbers being low in the FTJFL and having to drop to 3 teams, the league decided to find more games that the kids can play against. It should be interesting.

I know that a few went to the NKY Junior High League to play for NewCath, but not enough to make a drastic change. Maybe Campbell County's school league has pulled a couple??? I know that for my boys, soccer has taken precedence and they can't academically swing both. I know that a lot of their friends stopped playing for various other reasons. None, that I know of, because they didn't like. They liked other sports better.

The 'Great' players generally started playing in youth leagues and learned basic skills early. Many good players started later.

"Great" players start late all of the time. How many players actually take the varsity field playing the same position that they grew up playing? I know that I didn't. Depends on your position, in my opinion.

I know of several that played the same position from Starters through college. SK has two recent examples that played the same position throughout their youth, middle school, high school and college careers.

I don't know if it's a rarity or commonplace. But I do know it's hard to slot the "average" kid into a position when he is 7 or 8 years old. It's easy to make the big kid a lineman, and the fastest kid a back. I don't know how you develop an 8 or even 10 year old wide receiver, as passing the ball consistently is difficult. I'm a big fan of playing young kids in a lot of different positions and teaching basics to everyone. You never know how big or fast a kid will become.

Much ado about something Pi.....you dont lose that many kids and say Much ado about nothing. I guess I also dont see Dale or Brian Weinrich smiling and saying Much ado about nothing. I would be concerned, especially when several kids not playing are excellent athletes and could be huge contributors to the Bluebird program.

 

I will agree with you though that many kids do not have to play several years of Youth Football to be an effective High School player. However, name the last kid that started playing the sport their Freshman year and went on to be a big time stud or producer. I am very curious to know.

 

In the end, regardless of numbers or whatever, the Birds always seem to put out an extremely good Frosh team. This year's frosh coming in were not as highly touted as past year's classes but from what I heard about the Trinity scrimmage, they were very very impressive. I dont know what they do to those kids from Dec-Aug prior to their frosh year but it must be magic.
