The examples you cited in your rant in Post #69 weren't all radio-generated. The debate topic is/was rage/hate in the context of AM radio (which is dominated by the right). In addition to Rush Limbaugh being denied an ownership stake in the St. Louis Rams, let's also not forget Michael Savage being banned from the United Kingdom because his views "might provoke violence."

True, but you since you brought up Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, I thought I'd add a few from TV as well. Still really caustic stuff. Even Rush and Hannity aren't as bad as Air America was as Bluegrasscard pointed out, heck I doubt Savage said anything near as bad as the tripe that was on there which would answer as to why the ones you mentioned are still on the air and Air America is gone.

The hate from the right side is louder because of their following and the success of their shows but both sides have the same hatred for each other. Their perception of being irrational when it comes to sitting down with members from the left doesn't help them at all either.

Anyone who thinks that one side has the edge on hate just isn't paying attention to both sides. The only difference is the media used to dispense it. I do think that when one party is out of power, or at least the White House, the rhetoric is dialed up. Could be to offset the edge they perceive the administration has from using it's pulpit.

My opinion is the right wing radio jumped on the radio bandwagon before it was cool to do so and sealed that market. The left wing radio when trying to get in the business was not very well thought out. They tried to replicate what Rush and others were doing it is a different audience and frankly, the people they sought after to couteract was just not as talented. Politics aside, Rush and some others are great entertainers first and foremost.

First of all, the tragedy happened a few days ago. You don't know who has contacted whom to offer sympathies. The only thing you are interested in is to post negative post negative comments about the POTUS and anything associated with him. I can't believe you cry about fairness. If the Obamas would have mentioned the 8 year old name, you would have cried about using it as a political move. Just as you did Sandy Hook, make your mind up dude. Or better yet, let's just call it is, what it is!

I expected better from you. My eyes and ears are wide open, I see both sides, on radio, TV, internet and in the general public being as guilty as the other. I've seen and heard some awful hateful things from the left and certainly no less than the from the right. Perhaps the fact that the left has fewer shows and less listeners overall they feel they need to dial it up more. The fact that they are as loud and offensive as the side that has more shows and listeners should stand out to you and others. Instead you choose to turn a blind a eye and deaf ear. That's a shame.

First of all if he or she had contacted the victims family it would be on the news, if for anything a PR stunt. But I would hope and think it would be sincire.

Did the Obamas make a phone call to Trayvon's parents? I don't remember that. I remember Obama addressing his death, yes, but not calling. He also did it a month later.

 

Pendleton ("the girl shot in Chicago") was from their home town, where their children were raised until 2008, so I think there's a feeling of connection there that has nothing to do with race. She performed at the inauguration. She was shot in Hyde Park, for crying out loud. That's was their neighborhood.

 

If Obama never addresses ("the 8yr old") Martin Richard's family and their loss, I would be surprised. I have no problem with giving the family some space to process the violent death of a young child. I think Obama also has a lot to do right now, considering there was an attack on a major American city and iconic sporting event. Finally, the death of a child is tragic, but this was an event where two others lost their lives and dozens of others lost their legs. Maybe concentrating on one victim wouldn't be appropriate.

 

So let's check back in a month and see if he's said anything.
