Before I answer, I need to ask do businesses pay for that space on the road signs?

 

Yes they do.

 

Any sign that is not green has no Federal money involved. That includes the blue Rest Area signs. Those are state only signs.

 

The Feds do not pay the total cost of green signs. They just pay a big share. The only exception to green signs that I know of is Interstate Numbers.

Are Jewish owned businesses closed on Saturday, do they refuse to work on Saturday? The businesses around here that are Jewish owned are not closed on Saturday, that's why his statement confused me.

Guru, as you stated the "Open 24 Hours" signs are for safety, or at least that is how you look at them. Couldn't the "Closed Sunday" signs be held in that same regard? By putting that notice on the sign, it could be minimizing the amount of traffic that is using that exit/road where Chick is located. Depending on the exit or road it could in turn be reducing the risk of injury due to over congestion.

Chick is closed on Sundays, presumably so its workers can observe the (Christian) Sabbath. Hence the comment about Jews working there, since their Sabbath is indeed observed on Saturday.

When I was a kid in Dayton Ky the local shoe store owned by a Jewish family was closed on Saturday .

Subsidizing farmers to not raise crops, giving tax breaks to Exxon, and providing tax payer money to Solyndra to pee away, are examples of preferential treatment from the government. Chick-fil-A Closed Sunday, not so much.

After starting the thread, reading all the comments, reading Rockmom's links, and some reflection I do not think the Chick is getting any preferential treatment.

 

And adding to how much I like their food, the Chick I was at had excellent customer service too.
