Is Chick-Fil-A getting preferential treatment from the government?

Featured Replies

I noticed some Chick-Fil-A signs on the I-75 state that Chick-Fil-A is closed on Sunday. I get why that is important to Chick-Fil-A but I don't ever remember seeing any other signs that added information (other than open 24 hours which I think benefits the everyone for safety reasons) about a restaurant. In other words, shouldn't the sign just say Chick-Fil-A without any specifics about their business?

Before I answer, I need to ask do businesses pay for that space on the road signs?

I don't know the answer to that but if they do pay I am shocked other businesses don't add small details about their business.

I don't think it's any sort of political or moral statement. I think it's similiar to the gas station ones that say "No Diesel" on them. They simply don't want to attract traffic to their business when they can't satisfy them.

It's certainly relevant information. Don't want a lot if people trying to go to Chik-fil-a on Sunday when It is closed.

And if other businesses put "open 24 hours" I don't see that as being any different. So no, I don't think they are getting preferential treatment.

I see the 24 hours as a safety issue for all the drivers on the road, I see closed on Sunday as a convince for Chick.

Unless, it is Sunday and the car load of people I have want Chik, then it is for my convenience.

I see it as a benefit to the customer.

Personally I had no idea Chik was closed on Sunday. So If I were out on Sunday and wanted Chik it would benefit me.

I don't see how it does Chik any huge favors. It's not like they are getting more customers because of the sign...they're closed.

This. As I said before, it's just like the gas stations that say "No Diesel" or "No Trucks" on their signs.

I found this. It's from the State of Washington's website on road signs. For whatever reason, I can't find anything about road signs on Ky's site. I don't know if most states are similar or would allow for more supplemental messages, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did.

What should my business logo look like?

Your logo sign will be seen by thousands of motorists. Since potential customers could be driving by your sign at 60 mph or more, to take advantage of this opportunity make your logo as simple as possible:

Simple fonts are easier to read (i.e. arial, century gothic, tahoma).

Use the minimal amount of words necessary and make the letters at least eight inches high.

A light background with dark letters is preferred, any legend or message should contrast effectively with the background - the colors must provide good readability during both daylight and nighttime hours.

Business logo signs may consist of a symbol, trademark, or a legend message identifying the name or abbreviations of the specific business – the logo must be the symbol or trademark commonly used by the business.

The maximum amount of legend should be three lines, each having up to 12 characters (i.e. letter, numerals, or spaces).

Telephone or fax numbers, street, e-mail or Internet addresses, or directions are not permitted on logo signs.

Only the following supplemental messages may be used with logo signs: Open 24 hours, Diesel, Biodiesel, E85, Propane, CFN/Shell or other shared facility, Truck Stop, and RV Dump. A seasonal business may include months the business is in operation.

Business logo designs must be approved by a WSDOT Motorist Information Sign region representative before it is manufactured.

Seriously? It's a convenience for the hungry driver/passenger that wants to stop & get some food. I don't see how it is convenient for Chick-Fil-A at all.

I always wondered how some restaurants get their logo on the sign and others don't. Do the restaurants pay for this and if not, I would think it would be unfair to others.

Before I answer' date=' I need to ask do businesses pay for that space on the road signs?[/quote']

Yes. Businesses have to pay to either be displayed on a collective sign or one of their own. You pay a premium for placement as well and for having logo signage vs. a listing.

Seriously? So if the "Closed Sunday" is not on the sign and a customer exits the Interstate for some Chick-Fil-A only to find them closed, you don't think there will be any hard feelings by some of the potential customers? Especially if they are customers that don't get involved in politics and/or religion?

This clearly benefits Chick-Fil-A.
