Every time I saw Whitlow take off running with his "black no touch the QB jersey" I figured there would be those fans that would think he looked the best. It was obvious the defense was told over and over - do not touch the QB. The officials did not blow the whistle until it was obvious a defender was right on top of the QB.

 

In this type of scrimmage Whitlow's pull it down and take off style has an advantage. He kept drives alive with his feet. Not sure he would have been so effective if he had on a white or blue jersey.

 

 

I didn't see any of the three QB's move to the front of the pack, nor any of the three hurt their chances. I think it is still wide open.

 

I seen the scrimmage too, and Towels would have been carried out on a stretcher if he did not have a black jersey on.

I think that the starting QB should definitely be whichever one that Coach Stoops decides to play, he knows his team far better than anyone here.

A friend and I both went to the scrimmage. While Whitlow is obviously the quicker of them all. We both were not impressed by QB play. There was not a lot of quality thrown balls by any of them. There flows were wobbly, not leading the reciever they way Coach Brown wants too. If they didn't have the black jerseys on Za'darius Smith would have had a field day. He could not be blocked !!

Did you not see the run buys on the QB's standing in the pocket? Both smith and a towles had d-ends, and/or OLB, come off the edge full head of steam and just tag off. would have been huge blindside hits. Not qeustioning there toughness just saying they would have been blaseted.

Always a concern, but I don't think you can bubble wrap players. In fact, I think players are more likely to get injured when the team has dropped the aggressive mindset and is grinding the game out.

 

In any case, Strong is old-school and conservative; I doubt he's going to Bobby Petrino anybody. I just think it'll be a touch more wide open than last year if for no other reason than the core of the team is now made up of juniors and can be trusted a little more.

That might be the only thing I don't like about his coaching style. I'm all for blowing out everybody you can. Especially this coming season, style points WILL count for Louisville. Too many times we've let teams hang around and it almost bite us. Most recently, UNC last year. Could have beaten them by 50, instead we get vanilla and barely escape with a win.
