April 3, 201313 yr Could Alex develop much like Terrance Jones did? Jones had no show games as a freshman but was a different player as a soph and really played well down the stretch to the title. I think Jones was better but that type of development is very possible. Poythress definitely has the tools.
April 3, 201313 yr Will be very interesting to see what kind of role he carves out for himself next year. If Wiggins doesn't come his best chance for minutes is at the 3, but his game isn't really suited for that role. As a 4 he will have Randle and Wiltjer to compete with for minutes. The real loser in all of this is probably Lee in the short term. I can't see him playing much if at all next year...

April 3, 201313 yr Kentucky is going to be HUGE. 6'5" Aaron Harrison 6'5" Andrew Harrison 6'6" James Young 6'8" Alex Poythress 6'9" Julius Randle 6'9" Marcus Lee 6'9" Kyle Wiltjer 6'10" Dakari Johnson 7'0" Willie Cauley-Stein Oh, MY!! :scared: :scared:

April 3, 201313 yr ^Think we found out who one of the "UK fans" that was bashing Archie on Twitter was. I'll never understand why someone thinks it is okay to go on twitter and harass some kid because he decided to go play basketball for millions of dollars.
April 3, 201313 yr If I'm counting correctly, UK will have 8 McD's All Americans on the roster next year, with the potential for a 9th? Wow. And that doesn't include WCS. So basically at any given time during a game, UK will have more Burger Boys on the bench then the vast majority of NCAA teams will have on the court.

April 3, 201313 yr Great news. Analyze whatever you want but this kid was not ready. I think being around and watching some "pros" next year will do wonders for him. Agree 100%. Glad to see Alex make an educated decision and was not blinded by the cash. His biggest problem is his confidence and effort, not exactly the problems you want to take into an NBA camp. If he gets destroyed every day in an NBA or D-League setting eventually he will just give up, and all the talent goes to waste. The main thing he had going for him in NBA scouts minds was his body/athleticism. That potential isn't going anywhere, he's always going to have that. By coming back and going against Randle/Young/Lee/Wig?/etc. next season he will be a lot more prepared mentally and skill wise. There just wasn't anybody there to push guys like him and Archie this season. One of the reasons Noel and Willie started to blossom and the other guys just stayed the same. When your going against future pros instead of Wiltjer and Tod Lanter your going to have to get a lot better (especially if you want playing time).

Jones was a lot more skilled coming in. Both have NBA bodies and athleticism, but T. Jones also had some game to back it up. Not saying Alex can't do anything, I just think Jones had a lot more to work with talent wise.

I haven't saw Lee getting anything more than spot minutes at best with Alex and WCS coming back and the rest of the class that is coming in. If they are in a pinch and need to play a fast/defensive lineup then I can see him going in (if WCS it out with foul trouble or something). But other than situational stuff I don't see a lot of minutes for him either..... Which as a Kentucky fan is a good thing because it probably means he will be back for a second year, and really good by then. But then again, we all thought guys like Bledsoe, Orton, and maybe Teague would be back for a second year too so who knows?

Physically he just isn't ready and probably won't be until at least one full year in the program...
April 3, 201313 yr I have said all along Lee has a long way to go. Physically he just isn't ready and probably won't be until at least one full year in the program... Yeah he's way too small, even for the SEC. Pulling 30 boards a game in Valley California ball is a lot different than going up against some of the bruisers in college. Could you imagine him trying to mix it up in the paint with say Ole Miss last season? With Buckner and Holloway? They would destroy him. So having that year to develop in the weight room and in practice against future pros is going to help him out more than anything. Hopefully by year two he will be a pretty strong contributor. I think a lot of the high recruiting rankings have more to do with his future potential rather than how good his game is right now. Just isn't ready, but will be a nice player in due time.

I was probably more down on him than any of the national guys just because he is so rail thin. I do think in time he can be a factor and WCS returning buys him a year to work on it...
