I got the ring a few days before I wanted to do it and I couldn't take the pressure of keeping it secret/hidden, like a little kid with money. :lol2: So I just went with a very simple approach.
March 23, 201313 yr Congratulations! Big step, but a good one, from my point of view. Took Mrs. S to a really nice restaurant. Put the ring in a glass of champagne and proposed a toast to our marriage. She had no idea it was coming. Glad she noticed the ring, too, because she can swill some champagne, let me tell you.
March 23, 201313 yr Congrats! As a married man for 42 years, it's been all great! Drove "The Boss" down near Marklam Dam on a full moon night and had a friend who worked at WLW at the time play "Moon River" over the airwaves and popped the question and gave her the ring. Funny thing is, because I got her home late, after her curfew, she/we were grounded for a week. Parents were very happy with us getting engaged but they were old school and a curfew was a curfew, even if we were both 19 years old and both had full time jobs! Oh and her brother (who is now deceased), the next day made sure the diamond was real by scratching the front window pane of the living room that still had the scratch on it some 39 years later when mom (mother in law) sold the house.
March 23, 201313 yr Keep it traditional. No need to pop the question in public, hide the ring in food, pay a pilot to pull a banner behind a plane or anything like that. Get on one knee and tell her how you feel.

March 23, 201313 yr Congrats, my man. I'm sure you will join my "overachieved" club. Who else thinks we'll see a less "black and white" UKMF once he's been married for a while?

March 23, 201313 yr Congrats. Another vote here for keeping it simple. I think people try to hard to come up with some big way to do it. Hopefully the proposal isn't going to be the high light of your marriage anyway.
March 23, 201313 yr I just proposed to my girlfriend (now fiance) a couple of weeks ago. We took a weekend trip to Gatlinburg and hiked to Abrams Falls. I asked her once we arrived at the falls.
