Before Ohio changed their rule about out of state players, Northern Kentucky was a feeder for GCL schools. I think the Moeller team that was mythical national champs back around 1980 had a half dozen or more N. Ky. players on it.

1. NKY- The most state titles in a region. They have 6-A, 5-A, 4-A, 3-A, 2-A, 1-A State titles from the past even back in the old 4 Class system.

2. Louisville- This will ruffle a ton of feahters. If not for Trinity, X, Male, basically 6-A Louisville wouldn't be anything. Now with the emergence of 3-A Lou. Central, it gets #2. Let's think about this. Central is getting Lou. Male students what would be going to Male. IF they don't get those student/athletes does Lou. Central have the same success year in and year out with the new 6 class system?

3. Central KY- Danville and Boyle, NUFF said.

4. Western KY- Bowling Green, Mayfield, Fort Campbell, Paducah Til have helped this region since 6 class system.

5. Eastern KY- I consider this a good region for 3-4 A football.

6. Lex. Area- Probably the most disappointing area in KY. Other then LEX. Cath when was the last time a Lex. Area school won a title. You have to go back pretty far. With Lex being 2nd or sometimes biggest city in KY, depends on what year the census beaurau decides. Either way, the size of the town should produce more championships. I know you can count LCA, but if we are comparing the last 50 years the LEx area is at the bottom.

Louisville: 15 titles in past 10 years. I will take Trinity 8, St. Xavier 2, and Central 5 against the rest of the Commonwealth.

Northern KY 16 titles in past 10 years- including 5 in 1A and 2 in 2A.

Lexington and Boyle County/Danville should be together in my geographical book:

8 combined. (3 for Lex, 5 for Boyle/Danville/Mercer Co)

Western KY : 8 titles

Eastern Ky: 5 including Bell Co.

I agree with this as well as the BG/Mayfield>Boyle/Danville statement.

And Boyle County/Danville has to be included in CKY or Lexington. Which is it? I still have WKY over CKY also.

This might have been already discussed, but for the sake of this thread, are we considering Bowling Green as West KY? I personally (and, many others) consider it Central KY. Albeit South Central, KY.

2. NKY (HHS NCC BHS in hunt every year)

3. WKY (Mayfield, PT, BG, Fort Campbell in the hunt every year)

4. EKY (Belfry, Bell, Hazard, Breathitt always good always in the mix)

5. Central (Title town not what it used to be)

6. Lexington (Sad to see what is happening up there)

 

I am putting this out there again, and maybe someone will prove me wrong with Louisville, but NKY has ten teams who have won state and 14 teams that have been in the finals. Does Louisville have that type of sucess? Maybe they have historically and I don't know about it.

I have always considered BG SouthCentral Kentucky as well. Bowling Green refers to itself as SouthCentral Kentucky.

I think the other question is what timeframe are we using. How would you rate the state right now or with all the history included? Because tradition can mean that you go back and count things before even our generations, but reality means that things have changed over the years and others have stepped up and some have fallen off.

^^Yep! And if you talk to those who truly live in WKY (Hoptown, LBL, Paducah, Mayfield, Murray, etc.) they laugh at those who consider BG part of WKY.

 

But.....in fairness, it's also because of WKU being in BG that it gets that "WKY" label.

It means that about a fourth of the people who live in the tip of NKY work in Cincy...which in turns means that the population concentration of NKY is largely a product of Cincy...which in turn means: more kids = bigger pool of talent to draw from. Add that into the "care more about it" and you get my rational for ranking NKY #1…even if some still find a way to be offended by that.

Only because Highlands has concentrated on winning the titles in 2A,3A,4A,5A and on occasion very easily could have won the Big school title in the old 4 Class system and the new 6 Class system. Just sayin...

Not offended at all, but what you're missing is that when you have more concentration of kids in one area, you also have more concentration of schools in one area. So even if there is a lot of talent up here, it gets split up a lot more ways. If there were only 4-5 big schools up here, then I might buy into your argument a little...also, we wouldn't be having this conversation because we would know the answer to this question.

 

Just off the top of my head, I counted 21 high school football programs in the area that butts up to cincy. In the top part of NKY.

Speaking from the perspective of someone who knows little about Kentucky high school football, I would agree with this.
