Catholics, is this true?

Isn't that the crux of the abortion issue? The fact is you either are or are not pregnant. You either have a living being inside of you or you don't. You are conceived. Period. The rest is a joke of word play that is heinous in my opinion.

It all comes down to what you believe is a "human."

The issue isn't whether the diocese is "making good" on its $120 million settlement. The issue is how many inner-city schools are not being funded, how many works of Catholic charity are being abandoned, how many hard-working middle-class families are being forced to pay more to send their kids to Catholic schools because of this shameful diversion of tens of millions of dollars?

And speaking of shameful, new headlines today on the scandal involving Cardinal Keith O'Brien, head of the church in Scotland.

Would you prefer that the settlement not be made in the case? Or that the diocese not honor its settlement? Yes, obviously it would be ideal if the scandal hadn't happened and the money could be put to use in inner city schools, works of charity...but they Church can't neglect its obligation to pay its settlement. It's sad, but true.

So what your saying is that there is still a chance Harry Reid can be aborted? :sssh:

I worked in the finance area of Trinity High School when the Archdiocese made its settlement. Didn't affect out tuition rates at all. We were expected to be self sufficient so the finances of the chancery didn't affect us and I assume would be the same for NKY Catholic schools. Why are you so confident it is affecting the NKY Catholic schools? I assume they take care of themselves just like Trinity, X and the other schools down here.

Easy bluebird, less is more.
Let's go with "a lot less" when it comes to bigoted garbage like that particular post. :thumb:

The fact is, abuse happens throughout our society. And that includes clergy of all denominations.

You are correct. And I believe you are human when conceived. Has to start someplace, and that would seem to be a good starting place. If an unborn child is not human, I wonder why pregnant women spend so much time at the doctor making certain their baby inside their womb is okay.

When do you believe a person becomes human?

I don't know.

The report specifically identified the anterior cingulate as the area of the cerebral cortex responsible for pain processing. The anterior cingulate is part of the cerebral cortex, which begins to develop in the fetus at week 26. Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists submitted a report, Fetal Awareness - Review of Research and Recommendations for Practice

The distinctive feature of the human brain is the highly developed neocortex. If I had to choose a time from between conception to birth that represents when an embryo becomes a human life, it would be this time...and I would subtract a few weeks for good measure.

Sorry folks. I don't know where to post this.

If you met my little guy that pulled the rug from underneath us, and freaked us out, that scared us, that made us doubt, and that was maybe 5 weeks old (inutero) when we were age 43 and 46, and that 5-week-old made us say "out loud"----WTF!!??!!

See him now. You will never again question when life begins human. BEST thing that ever happened. Cannot imagine life without him.

So for all you know, a fetus could be human!

I'm not smart enough to make that distinction so the answer to your question is "could be."

So...could be.

A sheep farmer has some kind of pest disturbing his flock at night. He suspects it could be some kind of wild predator making its way on to his ranch, so he decides to try to take matters into his own hand. While patrolling his land with his rifle one night, the farmer is walking along the road that borders his property, and he sees some movement off in the distance along the edge of the road. He can't quite make out the silhouette. Is it a coyote? Could be. Is it a bear? Could be. Is it a human? Could be.

Does he shoot at it? Why, or why not?

If he isn't sure he probably shouldn't take any actions.

My thoughts exactly. So for those that argue that there is no way to determine when a zygote/embryo/fetus/baby IS a human, I would point to that logic when deciding whether or not it is right to kill that zygote/embryo/fetus/baby.

I'm not smart enough to make that distinction so the answer to your question is "could be."

I know what you're saying. It's just that my logic is something like"A fetus is a form of life made by humans, so it is therefor a human life." I'm not claiming that this is your argument either, but I think a lot of people get carried away with the whole "it couldn't survive outside of the womb, so it's not human". But really, when can a human legitimately survive on it's own, at age 5? 7? 10? Who knows? I have a bunch of friends in their mid twenties who I honestly believe would be dead in a matter of weeks if they didn't have their parents support.
