Ryle is a huge school, top notch facilities, plenty of money in its area. These are all very attractive to all coaches, not just from tiny Northern Ky but far reaching areas.

Ryles next coach will not come from this area but far away. None of the asst coaches around here will get it, they will land someone that none of the experts on here are aware of.

I agree that there will probably be someone from outside of NKY. But with all do respect there are a lot of great coaches in the area that would do a great job there and may deserve the chance. Ryle hasn't exactly been the dominate program in the region. It is a great job and has great potential. But there are a lot of good coaches that could step in and make it what it could be from the area.

I don't know why posters say coaches "deserve a chance". Can anyone name me any JV or Assistant Varsity coach from NKY to get a job at a big school like Ryle? Sullivan is the exception because he had previous head coaching experience as well as was an assistant on teams that went to state final fours. Looked back and found this on google:

 

The Cooper job will be Sullivan's second stint as a head coach. He led St. Patrick to a 7-19 record in the 2004-05 season before moving on to an assistant coaching job at Mason County, where he helped the Royals reach the state quarterfinals.

 

In Sullivan's two seasons at Holmes, the Bulldogs went 59-13 and won back-to-back Ninth Region titles. Sullivan said his experiences helped prepare him for life as a head coach.

 

This is not the resume of Blevins or Bowman who are the candidates you claim "deserve" a chance. Another name I am just throwing out as a possibility is Brad Carr. Very underappreciated and a very good coach.

Not someone around here who is an asst or for that matter a head coach. Think BIG! Think outside the box. I dont think they realize how big they can be. Maybe a small college coach. I think NKU's coach is halfway out the door, especially with a new AD on its way. He is a little over his head at NKU with them going Div 1. Someone like him would be a good choice.

You may have a good point but you have no clue how Ryle operates. The next coach WILL come from this area. There are too many extremely qualified coaches in this area and they like to keep things at arms length and RARELY step outside the box like BC did with hiring it's football coach (which was a great move IMO). Blevins may or may not get one of the open jobs and if he doesn't that will be that schools loss but a tremendous gain for Cooper. As for his demeanor on the sideline, which I guess would be RHN's 1st question on the application, I can tell you I have seen alot worse in NKY. The guy is solid and I wish him the best whatever or whenever he gets a HC gig.

 

Talent has not been an issue at Ryle as both Gray MS and Ockerman MS has sent a solid group of players that could have produced a much stronger competitive teams at the next level but I will agree whoever gets this job had better start to develop a relationship with these two MS programs.

You realize Coach Bezold was had a .500 conference record his first year in Division 1, right? He is a solid candidate for coach of the year in the A-Sun. I know that program well and he is no where near "halfway out the door" or "over his head." To think he would leave NKU to coach at Ryle is beyond crazy.

First of all I think the ASUN is a horrible conference with about three teams any good. Mercer, FGCU and Stetson are good but the rest are bad. Holmes could have competed with the lower half of this league. I don't think the new Pres and incoming new AD will stand still and accept this mediocre team. The games I saw at NKU showed not much talent on the floor and noone in the stands. That place should be rocking and was dead as heck. Very disappointing. Hopefully Bezold can get rid of these present players and step it up. Had years to get ready and again what I saw was mediocre at best. Just my opinion. BOK should be getting jam packed on every home game without any gimmick marketing.

The incoming freshmen will be able to play in NCAAs only when they are seniors. Hard to recruit kids with them knowing they have no chance to be on CBS at this time until their 4 years are over. No coach can overcome that disadvantage. Good season by the Norse, proud alum.

I wasn't saying a coach with no HC experience. I'm saying a coach from one of the smaller schools in the area or around it. I personally don't think the Blevins guy isn't ready for a Ryle job. But I'm not an AD either so..

This is crazy. Bezold did a great job this year. They are on a probation period. They need time to recruit. And Holmes has one kid that can play D1 ball right now in my opinion. .500 record first year on D1 when you are. Allowed to play in the post season is pretty good. Not saying Bezold is the greatest coach ever, but he's a local guy doing a pretty good job.

Exactly, but technically he was the freshmen coach, and he was hired by Demler. I just don't see Ryle going this route again. It's like when Kentucky hired Gillespie, and I am not comparing Alan to Gillespie, Barnhardt knew he had to make a splash with the next coach. Demler will not repeat his mistake of hiring Alan. Mullins had success at the freshmen level and everyone assumed it would transfer over to the Varsity level. Unfortunately, it did not. Mullins got the head coaching job NOT because of his success at the freshman level! Mullins got that job because the late timing of the previous coach stepping down to become the asst. principal. If memory serves me correctly he stepped down in mid-late April when other coaches had already "re-upped" with their current school. In essence he got that job by default because it made since to keep some continuity because of the timing. Had the previous coach stepped down right after the season there would have been other coaches much more qualified either as the HC or JV coach.

Good points. Why don't they allow incoming teams to participate in league tournaments?
