Who will replace Alan Mullins at Ryle?

Featured Replies

NA, just because I don't think they are right for the job doesn't mean I do not like them as individuals. I look at what Ryle has coming back, they will be very raw and need a lot of work. In my opinion, which i have the right to, Ryle needs someone who can build on that raw talent and draw/keep the basketball players that will come to their school. Blevins and Bowman do not have that experience yet as head coaches. This could be a rough season for Ryle and Demler and the coach will be under fire quick. This isn't Cooper where everyone knew they'd struggle out of the gate. Ryle parents have, and always will have, unrealistic expectations.

Agreed

In the name of our friend WVFrank I ask we now hedge up old stories about the Moss family. It serves no purpose. Plus he's the ONLY person on BGP who knows the actual truth. Since he can't defend any accusations AND since this is about Ryle boys basketball I say we drop it.

Mullins got the head coaching job NOT because of his success at the freshman level! Mullins got that job because the late timing of the previous coach stepping down to become the asst. principal. If memory serves me correctly he stepped down in mid-late April when other coaches had already "re-upped" with their current school. In essence he got that job by default because it made since to keep some continuity because of the timing. Had the previous coach stepped down right after the season there would have been other coaches much more qualified either as the HC or JV coach.

Actually it was June - July time frame!

Ryle will form a committee to hire its next head coach and nothing will be forth coming until after spring break.

Very wrong on that statement Walter!

I guess I got bad info then...My source was an AAU teammate of Thad.

Thanks for clearing it up.

I'd be hard pressed to post info like that on what a 13-15 yr old kid tells you.

I know for a fact the situation and it was bogus! If you can live in the area of the school with no problems, then you can go to the school with no problems. I know what "excuse" was given to the board and it was not the real reason. I will not elaborate on what excuse was given but the real reason the kids left was because one of the kids didn't feel they should be held to the same standard as the others on the team.

Well I have some pretty good facts myself but won't debate the issue but trust me it had much more to do with coaching and all I will say if until you walked in someone else's shoes.....

It's a mute point now.

I have watched both coach a lot in the last 3 years and Blevins is far superior than Bowman in my mind. Better game manager, better sideline demeanor and way better handling officials. The kids would be happy with Blevins, most of them has said they would be very disappointed if Ryle hires Bowman

Wow you really know nothing about coach bowman he has coach a more af a varity of levels and coached at two different program with winning seasons that invludes at ryle. The players and parents at ryle highly repect bowman. You are totally wrong. And if i can recall coach bowmans team made the jv finals ....where was blevins ??

Why are you so defensive? I'm just stating my opinion and those of the players that my nephew hangs with. He and about 4 of his teammates all feel the same about Bowman. If you knew anything about JV basketball it's about developing and not winning. Blevins and Sullivan have developed.

I would agree with this sentiment. I think Blevins is a better choice than Bowman but not quite convinced either will get it. I'm sticking to a young but experienced coach getting the job. Don't have a name just that is going to be his makeup.

Any names out there yet?

I heard Dave McFarland has applied and that Snapp is someone Ryle really likes.

Dave is not an option at this point too green right now. Funny thing is Ryle is having a committee go over the candidates, kind of hard for "Ryle" to like any one candidate at this point.

I think Snapp, Goetz, Blevins, and one outsider will be interviewed. Just a hunch no big inside info. Have been told some head coaches from Louisville and Cincinnati applied.

Dave is an option and that comes from someone on the committee. Same with comment about Snapp. Comes from solid source.

Have heard Ryle is looking for someone who relates well to the kids and is also willing to work with AAU coaches...exact words from my source. Take it FWIW.

I'm do glad that everyone at every school tells Walter everything. There's no possible way anyone else could know what they're talking about.
