Things I remember. I thought Riverfront Stadium was as big as all the world. We had good seats down the 1st base line and I was certain I was going to catch a foul ball. I remember the beer venders yelling "Rock and Roll with Hudepohl". My dad tried to teach me to use the scorecard in the program to keep score and I gave up on it pretty quickly. I remember Ron Cey and Steve Garvey always killed the Reds and they were my least favorite Dodgers (and I hated all the Dodgers, lol). I remember my mother bringing a book to read and I was ashamed. I remember seeing George Foster hit a home run and he instantly became one of my favorite Reds. I remember walking across the bridge and staying in a hotel on the KY side of the river. I thought that bridge was roughly about 5,000 feet above the river. I remember eating a chocolate ice cream in a paper cup with a wooden spoon. My dad bought me a red plastic batting helmet and I thought it was the coolest thing.

 

I'm glad you started this thread, I haven't thought about those things in a long time.

My first game was a kid glove game that goes back to the old scrimmage game with the Tigers.............Had to be 1973......My first regular season game was a game against the Giants in 1974.......I also remembered the Reds won in a high scoring game and it was in July. So I did some research and found the box score. Its funny because I had a Tito Fuentes baseball card and he was in an action shot so I thought he was just the best infielder in the world and he had a huge day that day........ Reds won 14-13 that day. I remembered Concepcion and Bench hitting home runs that day as well..............

Specific date I don't remember, but I believe it was the 1977 season. My mom, grandpa and I drove to Pittsburgh to see the Reds play the Pirates. Reds lost. But, I got one of those plastic batting helmet-type hats that I still have to this day.

June 8th 1954 vs Pittsburgh Pirates . My cub scout pack went to the game Reds won 5-0 . 1 was 7 years old .

Been going since I was very small, so I have no idea. I did have the chance

to meet Marty and Joe once before.

I knew mine was August of '63, Purkey against Drysdale. Did have to look the correct date up. Sorry for that I guess.

For those whose first game, like mine, was at Riverfront do you still have that memory of how GREEN the field looked when you walked through the tunnel to your seat?

 

Sometimes when I'm listening to Reds' games on the radio I still picture the action taking place at Riverfront.
