Who were the three sophs that started, Deaton started a couple of games at LB, I saw Vercheack (?) play a bunch, but did not see him start. Who was the other?

In my opinion, at a 6A schools the more sophomores you have playing, the weaker your program. Obviously, there are exceptions. You might have a very talented group of freshmen moving up where more than a couple start - but that should be a rarity. And if you have a sophomore starting at QB at a big school, he better be big and special.

I watched a lot of sophs play varsity for CCH in the 2002 season and it was a struggle against that tough schedule. They're just not physically ready in the box. You can get by with skilled players being young but it's really hard for linemen and LBs.

I agree with that 100%.

In our case, if sophs starts its because they are good enough to contribute. They wont start because of a lack of talent on the team. A few of them are going to start three years and get better with time. If they produce this year, look out the next two!

Funny, I have same thought whenever there is a change of possession in a 1A game, and only three kids come off the field!

If you have multiple soph starting, that means your program usually has issues, unless you're a small school. No reason for any 6A, 5A, 4A, school to start many unless they are studs.

I may be wrong but its just my opinion, the only soph at Ryle who is going to start is Collin England 6'2" 205 rb/wr. He already has a varsity body. The rest barring injuries will probably play jv.
