Let's bump this one back to the top to see if there are any moments we want to add after watching this year's action.

The 1982 Finals between Laurel Co. and North Hardin. Game was tied late in the 4th qtr and Laurel Co was holding the ball for the last shot and turned it over with just a few seconds left. North Hardin tried a length of the court pass to 6'10 Brett Burrow. Paul Andrews leaped in front of Burrow to grab the ball then took 2 or 3 dribbles and launched a shot from the North Hardin side of halfcourt. Nothing but net as the buzzer went off and Laurel Co won the championship.

 

I spoke with a guy once who was there and he said "it was quiet, almost still, for like a second, then the roof just blew off the arena."

 

Is that a fair representation? I would love to have seen it (unfortunately I was only six months old when it happened)!

For those that know me, and know I am not a basketball guy, this might come as a surprise, but I was there. I think I was a freshmen in high school and I took a couple days off and went to the tournament.

 

 

When Andrews hit that shot, it was just like gchs describes. Rupp was packed, and I mean packed. Andrews launched it right in front of me behind midcourt against the sideline, as I was sitting about 10 rows back. When he let the ball fly, you could feel the air in Rupp change as it seemed like everyone in the place took a deep breath at the same time. It was like a slo-mo in a movie as the ball arched toward the basket. When it drained the net, it was dead silent for about a second or so, and then BAM!!! The place went absolutely crazy. I've never in my life experienced anything like that since.

Remember listening to this one on the radio as a kid.

 

I still have a radio broadcast of that game (Earlington vs. Covington Catholic--1967 final) on CD. Not real well done (I found out later that it was edited by a non-sports fan,) but a ton of memories.

I have a recording of that game broadcast. Our station engineer was watching an NCAA tourney game on TV and listening to us do the high school championship game. Said he was in the kitchen when he heard a roar from the radio that just wouldn't die down...and it took him quite awhile to figure out what happened. Yes, it was incredible.

I want to add last year's Ballard/Madison Central game to the list. That is my favorite Sweet 16 game ever since Bosley made that shot right in front of me and spindoc. I'll never forget it.

You knew when Bosley got the ball that it was going up. Kid wasn't one to shy from a shot and he will forever be a hero in Rich-City.

My two picks had outcomes I didn't like. This one:

 

1967 Sweet Sixteen Championship Game CovCath vs. Earlington.....

 

Seconds left in the game, CovCath up by one, Earlington takes the ball out from under the CovCath basket, Earlington dribbles down to just a little inside the mid court line shoots and misses but the ball just barley touches the front of the rim and instead of bouncing up and away from anyone, the ball lands into the hands of a surprised Earlington player who is between two CovCath players who are afraid of fouling the player, who then puts it in for the win as the horn sounds.

 

and the Holmes vs. Shelby County 1978 Championship game. Doug Schloemer, Dickie Beal, Bud Wimzie, Charles Hurt….great game..terrible no call on the famous hand through the net & goal goaltending.

Cute reference and avatar. I thought his greatest game was the one where he sat and talked with those two fine men that he stumbled upon in the lower level last year.

Trinity vs. Mason Co. and Chris Lofton in 2004. I think that this was the game that showed Trinity had "arrived" in basketball. Trinity had a 3 point lead with just a couple of seconds left in regulation. Mason's ball. Trinity opts not to foul on the inbounds and Lofton buries a 3 to force OT. 3 OTs later Mason had won but I believe the Rocks opened people's eyes.

Still have to go with 1983 state finals.

Since it's the ONLY Sweet 16 game I've attended..........1984, Scott Co. (14-15) over #1 ranked Newport Catholic (33-1) in the 1st round :banghead:

 

Breds shooting that day was less than stellar, seems to be the NewCath MO in big games.
