I to this day never have understood why they scheduled Etown that year.

Etown was horrible, bad example.

 

The reference was that it was more than the 100 miles mentioned.

I don't want to get that far away from the thread other than to say Franklin County would not be the team I schedule if my primary goal was beating Mayfield given the context of the debate.

My point being, yes Franklin gave up a lot of points, but they scored a lot more then they gave up. If you could have stopped Franklin from scoring last year, you could have stopped most teams.

I didn't watch the Mayfield championship game live, but I did listen to it on the radio and Bowling Green reminded me of them last year, very balanced offensively and defensively.

 

The big difference between BG and Mayfield is that BG had several players they could go to on offense, listening to the Mayfield game it was Jackson who was the go to guy.

Jackson was a rare player and we will miss him more than anyone I can recall, especially late in close games where he got stronger while everyone else on the field got weaker. The real question could turn out to be how will Mayfield respond without Jackson? One thing is for sure, this years schedule will answer that question early and often as I see 5 to 6 games that could be possible losses if we are not on our A game. I think our matchups with Murray and maybe Ft. Campbell will mimic Beechwood if they play a similar offense that we have seen to date under Coach Rash. I don't expect much change on either side of the ball for Beechwood except for them throwing just a little more with the talented QB. The best thing I think Beechwood can do to beat Mayfield is do a better job of utilizing with what they have. They may have been out manned a few times but they have also likely been out coached too. Like a few others have said on here before, they have been very run oriented during the season and playoffs and I think it hurt them when they faced Mayfield and they have never appeared to be in their comfort zone when passing. It was like the Beechwood players, coaches and fans were all holding their breath every time they pass during Coach Rash era.

 

I don't see Franklin Co being very good prep for Mayfield if they are like last season. Better on offense and worse on defense.

 

I know nothing about this Ironton team other than they are out of state, are high respected by all NE KY teams and Raceland is playing them this year

Ironton is a traditional power in their class in Ohio, several State Championships and a strong team. They used to be very run heavy (All run, and good at it) but the last several years they are a little more balanced. Quality program.

BG was a top 5 team last year in all classes, Mayfield was great but several rungs down the ladder from them. I think had Beechwood played Bowling Green it would have been a very rough night to the point I am not sure they would have been able to take a lot away from such a game that was helpful

I was just mentioning that because Franklin County was being tossed around as a team close to Mayfield etc.

 

With that said, if Mayfield was a run oriented team, then for Beechwood maybe a Harlan County would be a good test.

They do sound a lot like us. I think Beechwood might consider trying to schedule Trousdale County, TN. They are the as good as small school football gets every single year. I cant think of a more dominant small school football team

Then they are not preparation to face Mayfield, especially post Jackson Mayfield. Mayfield in 2013 will likely be 75% pass team using a spread/short pass attack.

I agree. A Bowling Green game does nothing to help Beechwood.
