if I were in charge I would try to find one or two games a year specifically meant for beating Mayfield. In other words, I would ask the question what is it that Mayfield has/does that consistently beats us, then I would try to find a couple of teams that mimic Mayfield as closely as possible and schedule each of them. One home and one away each year.

 

I will go one step further and I believe I have said this before, "everything" Beechwood does as a football program should revolve around beating Mayfield.

 

Just curious but off the top of your head who do you feel would be good choices of a couple of teams that mimic us closely? Would you only consider local teams or would you want teams that are far away to also mimic the travel distance that is involved in years like the up coming one where Beechwood will have to travel west if the 2 programs make it that far?

So does Beechwood play a game or two that mimics a team that is a versatile squad like Mayfield of 2013 should be or the Mayfield of the last few years that had a player that simply could take over a game on both sides of scrimmage? Either way Mayfield will pose a tremendous challenge but Beechwood's barometer of the Cardinals recently was influenced heavily by Jonathan Jackson. Does Beechwood look at Mayfield differently with Jackson now departed?

If we are going to have to mimic Mayfield really close, then Beechwood needs to schedule Mayfield in the regular season. Seriously, there isn't anyone else like them. Probably the closest team to them I can think of is New Cath and they are on the Beechwood schedule.

Does Beechwood have a travel restriction? I know Raceland tried to schedule several NKY teams over the last several years and they were told that most of the NKY teams could not travel greater then 100 miles.

Yes ... and no.

 

Let there be no doubt, Jonathon Jackson was the difference in a couple games the last few years. You never believe one person can single handedly win a football game, but I honestly say he did. Two years ago, Mayfield does not beat Beechwood without Jackson. The Mayfield people will disagree, but they are wrong. Look at what happened in the championship game that year when Jackson tried to play injured. I believe Beechwood may have won last year's game if Jackson isn't on the field. The TD he scored right before halftime, I don't believe there is another player in the state that would have scored on that play. I am not saying Beechwood wins, but it is a different game with any other running back and line backer on the field. Jackson was one of those once in a lifetime dominators so no doubt Mayfield will not be the same without him.

 

That being said, Mayfield is no one trick pony. They will be great, not good ... great, almost every season. That is the program they have. So even without Jackson, Beechwood will have to be at their best to beat Mayfield.

I don't want to get that far away from the thread other than to say Franklin County would not be the team I schedule if my primary goal was beating Mayfield given the context of the debate.
