The problem with Ohio is just what we see in the opening game scheduled by the SkylineCrosstown Showdown promoter. The way the playoffs work in Ohio with a computer system determining who gets in the playoffs, most Ohio teams that are a good matchup for Beechwood don't want to play Beechwood. That is why Beechwood is scheduled against Lima Sr. in that game.

Absolutely. That is why Beechwood's Highlands contract only lasted two seasons. There just wasn't any chance of Beechwood beating them so why play them. The same reason why New Cath doesn't play Highlands. You want the toughest matchup you can find where you have a chance of winning.

Then they are not preparation to face Mayfield, especially post Jackson Mayfield. Mayfield in 2013 will likely be 75% pass team using a spread/short pass attack.

 

I doubt it, as of now we will be more 50/50 and let each game determine what we will do. I think you all will be unpleasantly surprised with this years running attack behind a very good veteran line that is living in the weight room.

Right after I posted that, I thought about the veteran line returning and second guessed myself on the 75% passing comment. I am sure it will be a game by game decision on the percent. Still, my guess is that even with the veteran line, in the big games you will throw more than you run.

We will when we are outmanned up front or deadlocked upfront. Coach Morris still prefers to run first but knows we have to pass and be just as comfortable doing so as we are when we run. I think you will be surprised with Jordan Tyler and Mills is a very hard nosed short yardage runner. If you look back to last year you see that Mills was tough in tight spaces even when Jackson was getting a breather

They have time for perhaps one play. They run the ball. Hand it to Jackson up the middle. Beechwood has it perfectly defended. Jackson runs right through a linebacker who never misses tackles (not Nussbaum) and scores the TD that turned the game around. I can not think of one other back besides Jackson who I have seen in the past few years who would have scored on that play.

 

Also, food for thought. In that game Jackson had 30 carries for 248 yards. Mills had 7 carries for 21.

I and the rest of B. R. Nation fully know what Jackson meant and we cant replace him. Mills is a very sturdy back though in tough yardage situations but he is not going to break many if any. If our backs hold up this year as I feel they will we will be a tough out for anyone in class A and if they don't and we find ourselves passing 75% of the time the trophy will likely not be back in Mayfield.

 

Similar question will be how Beechwood does without Nussbaum? There is no one I can think of that can replace him for the Tigers but I know you guys are high on a couple of the returning kids though their name escapes me at this time

I know nothing of these teams. Are they big schools, small, medium? How are they in football and how are they supposed to be this year and why would that many decline?

 

Do they know something Mayfield doesn't? My assessment at this point based on knowledge of who is back ect. would be that Beechwood will be young and solid but nothing spectacular at least not early in the year.

As someone mentioned previously, Ohio teams make the playoffs based on a point system. They are probably just as unfamiliar with BW as BW is with them. There is no playoff risk at all for the Tigers but tons of risk for the Ohio teams. If I am an Ohio team I schedule teams, if I can, where I can mitigate some of the risk.

In short, Ohio teams only schedule KY teams when they are almost certain they are going to win the game.

 

I am not sure on the exact Division each of those Ohio teams plays in but I can tell you none of them are the smallest and none of them are in the largest Ohio divisions.

 

To be frank, each of those three teams is running a risk playing Beechwood because they may lose the game and some if not all of the three may be an underdog in the game. I assume Lima Senior is in a rebuilding phase and is just happy to play in the event vs. being ultra concerned with a potential loss.

Even with Germantown Valley View being down the past couple of years, I sure would like to see Beechwood play them, and I think it would do them more good.

 

Not sure if a call to Newark Catholic would go anywhere since Beechwood gave them a beatdown about 8 years ago, but either them or Licking Valley would be nice to see a game with Beechwood.

Beechwood really hasn't played any Ohio schools in the past several years for them to not be fans of the staff. Not sure how long ago, but I know Alter was one of the last Ohio teams Beechwood played, it's been several years since they played CHCA too, not sure if they played any since.

Beechwood played CHCA in 2004. (BHS 45-0)

Beechwood played Newark Catholic in 2005. (BHS 42-10, it could have been a lot worse).

Beechwood played Alter at Beechwood in 2005 (Alter won 17-14)

Beechwood played Alter at Alter in 2006 (Alter won 16-0)

 

Not sure who they played from Ohio since these teams? I know they played Wyoming about 10 years ago as well as Western Hills.
