30 game limit - any other States close?

Recommended Posts

Those limits are for regular season only I'm guessing...if so then 30 game limit is almost 3 games a week at the current limit. Most teams seasons don't get started until around the time of the state football finals the first week in December then district play starts in the middle of February so that gives them about 10 or 11 weeks.

Is 3 games a week too much?

I would say 6 game limit during Christmas break (Holiday tourneys) but a 2 games a week limit during the rest of the season.

They are thinking of lowering it. I have not heard a number yet.

Will not fly, unless I have a bad read on it.

Good teams need close to 30, play your district, upper level region teams, then play in 1-2 of the premier tourney's in the state and you are at 30.

22 games really, why even have a team if all your gonna play is 22 games.

The team I was with in Ohio which won a state title played 20 regular season games when that was still the limit. We ended up 24-3, about the record of some good teams in the Commonwealth during the regular season.

The 30 game limit was enacted to do away with having to interpret how many games you were charged for playing in multi-game tournaments. To simplify things, they came out with the blanket 30 game season ruling.

I do not want to see them cut back on that number of games. With having to schedule conference games, All "A" Regional, and hopefully "A" State games, and space for a holiday tournament, leaves very little wiggle room as it is. Take away 3 games and the cheese gets quite binding.

Easy fix - Do away with the first round of football playoff games and get them back to a more reasonable playoff system. They used to have their state championships on Thanksgiving weekend. Since expanding the football playoffs, the squeeze has been on basketball to cut back on games.

Serious question, 'stang. How many teams are in conferences where "conference games" must be played?

Our NKAC Division II conference consists of Brossart, NCC, Holy Cross, Lloyd, Newport, St. Henry, Holmes, Highlands, and Beechwood.

8 mandatory scheduled games. Then count in your district seeding games - 4, and the All "A" Regional which is normally 3 or 4, and if you are lucky enough to go to the "A" State 2,3 or 4. Christmas tournaments can account for up to 4 more.

I realize we are the exception in having the good fortune to be successful in the "A" for the past few seasons. The other thing to consider are how many home games you play. Home games pay the bills. This past season, with our playing the conference, "A", Republic Bank, and District seeding games, we only played 7 home games out of the 32 total games played. Cutting back on total games means cutting back further on home games and additional lost revenue.

I, too, am from Ohio and I would guess I am quite a bit older.

Thirty six years ago, my high school team played 18 regular season games and four in the tournament.

I must admit, I thought that was too few games then, and I think it is too few games now. When you think that practice for the non-fall sport guys began in October that means in the five month season from October-March, playing 22 games is like averaging one per week!

I think Kentucky allowing around 30 regular season games/season is much more like it. And I might add, when it comes to basketball, overall, Kentucky is much better than my native state to the north.
