How would you describe determination?

Another one of those Cooper clunkers that they have every so often. They normally don't have two in a row though. But, their defense is normally always there and they advance. They make no three's and miss probably 15 FT's (Morgan missed at least 8-10; Holland missed both technical FT's; McNeil missed 2-3) and they still win to advance so all is good. St Henry played hard and congrats to them on their season.

 

Cooper leading scorer was AJ and he had 2 points going to the 4th as he couldn't buy a bucket either. However, as usual, he is clutch down the stretch from the line as I believe he made atleast 6 in a row at one point to maintain 5-7 point lead.

 

The main goal was accomplished, WIN!!!!

The poor shooting any coach can live with. Lack of intensity and sense of urgency is unacceptable and I was told the staff made it REAL clear that this was the problem tonite. For the first time all year no 3 point baskets made but they kept jacking them up, absolutely terrible FT shooting (15/28), lack of bigs hitting the boards found 2 of the 3 of them on the bench to Sullys displeasure, and mass turnovers, just an ugly ugly game. The team has ZERO leaders on it and someone, and at this point I don't think Sully cares Who it is, needs to step up and take the bull by the horns.

 

This effort was FOWL!!!

It might have been mentioned in the thread earlier but the biggest thing that I saw was all the missed free throws as you mentioned. Sometimes you are going to have those games were the ball won't go in the bucket, but there's no excuse at the line. They looked like they didn't have their legs under them last night at all. They will need their legs Saturday and like you said their goal was accomplished.

It would be more but these regional games tend to be low scoring. If Holmes is able to get any kind of lead, they will again dribble out the clock, make Copper work, and Cooper has no one to stay with them.

 

A 12-15 point victory will feel like 20.

 

Last night Holmes ws very impressive ball handling and being smart after getting second chance rebounds, kicking it out, and withering away more clock.

You have to be kidding on the first bolded statement. The second, most all of Cooper's games are low scoring, including the 6 point loss at Holmes earlier so I do expect another low scoring game.

 

The rest I agree with you. Holmes moves the ball well and ran the clock with the lead. If Conner had done that, Cooper would already have been home.

 

If Cooper goes 0'fer for three and shoots 50% from the Free Throw line again, then I agree Holmes wins by double digits. Luckily every game is different!!

I agree with all ur points except the talent comment. There is a reason why Maniacci was on the bench for nearly all of the 4th qtr. This team needs a leader and it doesn't have one. There is an abundance of talent on this team but they have yet to put it all together.

I would take AJ Collins on any team. He may not be the most "skilled" but his competitive desire to win puts him above most and he is clutch in late game situations.

 

IMO, McNeil is the player that needs to become a little less selfish and take the game over more. He can beat his man and has a way of getting off quality shots in the lane.

 

I would take Shelton over a couple of the Cov Cath bigs.

The first half had a decent crowd still. The second half was mostly just Cooper and St Henry fans, as expected. I know Cooper sold out of their 250 tickets quickly at school so a lot of folks had to buy at NKU.

Observations from the game;

game was not very pretty.

St. Henry missed Noble--hope he is feeling better.

St. Henry is scrappy, they are really not that athletic.

Cooper did not play up to their potential and will go home after the next game if they don't play better.

Both teams play great defense.

St. Henry needed to take better care of the ball.

2 great coaches on the sidelines last night.

I'm sure if u ask ANY of the 3 coaches if they would like to have McNeil in their starting lineup all 3 would answer in the affirmative just for his pure scoring ability. He hasn't played consistently 100% to this regions style yet but I don't know of a coach who wouldn't put him in the starting 5. Collins would be a close second on pure heart and determination.

 

This really bears no more discussion because it has no meaning. The team obviously has talent to win 23 games. Maniacci is important but this team has won a tremendous amount of games where he was either hurt or had little to no impact on the game. If you think this team has no talent outside of him it's blatantly apparent that you have no clue what you're talking about. Again no meaning, Sully clearly knows what he's got.

I agree neither team played well but In my opinion a lot of the sloppy play was a mixture of many things but one of the big reasons was the type of defense being played. No one was really getting easy shots off. Even the 3s were somewhat contested.

 

OK, maybe you need to watch the game again. The 3 pointers were not really contested and if you play off McNeil and Collins the way SH did last night, they'll usually burn you up. It was simply poor open shot shooting from the outside. Now we all may have a different opinion on what contested shots are, but from my years of being around the basketball game, I'd say they were open shots that were missed. Many shots were just coming off the front of the rim, which could be a result of the spacious open backdrop that they're not used to. I dunno :idunno:
