I did not see the NCC v Cov Cath game but was told that was intense as well. As for the championship game, it lived up to what a championship game should be imo.

 

The Scott-NCC opening round regional game last year was probably the best Freshman game I've seen. 1-0, 8 in no hitter thrown by NCC, Andrew Trame throwing 7 2/3 shutout innings for Scott.

I'm with you on this one.

I believe that Harris, Enslen and Hightchew will be playing for NCC this spring. Not sure on McHugh. Gesenhues attends HHS and apparently is not playing baseball for the Birds, rather he is working on his soccer game. I believe the others are not playing high school baseball this season in order to participate in spring football and get ready for next years football season. They will be playing an abbreviated schedule this summer and hopes are that a few of them may have a change of heart over the next few years.

 

That saddens me. I know it has been beaten to death on every HS forum, but kids "choosing" to concentrate on one sport at such a young age seems too much. Think of the friendships, camaraderie, and life-long memories he will miss out on. Who doesn't regale about stories when they were 15-16-17? Maybe I'm WAY off base, but I can't imagine Brady telling stories to his kids about the time during spring soccer practice that happened, versus the stories he could tell about baseball games played during his high school career.

 

I have tremendous respect for the Gesenhues family and the decision. I'm sure they have discussed this and feel it is best for Brady. That's what is most important. But I can't help but think to myself .. Brady is a very good soccer AND baseball player. Why can't kids just be kids and play sports to have fun?

He will be playing baseball this summer and hopefully has a change of heart down the road as well as some others.

This was a decision made to be respectful of both teams and coaches. Brady is playing at the top level with his soccer club. A committment was made that involves a lot of time and travel and money. As has been stated, Brady will be playing summer baseball. Maybe next spring Brady will continue club soccer at a less competitive level thus keeping his "foot on the ball", but also providing the opportunity to play high school baseball.

 

Rather than be saddened by this, be glad that an athlete is honoring a committment made while keeping options open for the future.

That does make perfect sense. I do feel much better knowing he will still be playing baseball .. he is a unique athlete with great skills at both sports. Thanks to you and Jack for the clarification.

I doubt it. He's good, but really needs a year at the JV level. Velocity isn't quite there. He's also had some arm trouble over the years, so they will likely limit his innings. I would expect Walker Terry to pitch a little varsity this year as a freshman.

Dixie has Smallwood and Lyons for strong arms on the mound as Frosh and Albert behind the plate as a soph. All three are good hitters with the Albert kid swinging from the left side as a catcher.

Ty Lyons? Isnt he a soph? Good player, watched him play with Midland couple years. Ty does a nice job behind the plate too.
